HAPPY BIRTHDAY HARRY!!!!!!!!
And to celebrate, we are having a KAL/CAL. On the last day of every month, we will post a 12" pattern for a knitted block & a crocheted block. Just use the colors of your favorite Hogwart's house and knit/crochet up the block. Make one each month or if you're crazy like us, make one for each house and have a house unity afghan at the end. To help those knitting or crocheting newbies or those that have mastered one & are wanting to try their hand at the other, we will also be giving you links to the stitches used in each pattern. And of course, if you need help feel free to pick our brains or any of the other brilliant patrons.
I used this
site to get the block started. If you need help, this
site is how I learned to knit. They have wonderful videos on everything from casting on to binding of & even some advanced stitches. Just click on the videos tab or the glossary tab. The glossary tab lists all the stitches & if there is a video, it is right next to the stitch name.
calypsobard made the brilliant suggeestion to make the block look like the scarves in the movies. You can make your block all one color or use the color pattern that follows:
14 rows of your main color (MC) (Scarlet)
4 rows of your accent color (AC) (Gold)
6 rows of MC
4 rows of AC
14 rows of MC

This lovely block is appropriately called
Birthday Flower. I used the star variation to get the 2 color effect. It was found on
www.yarncrazy.com and was linked with permission.

Here are the stitches you'll need to know to do this block: how to make a ring, slip stitch, chain stich, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet & treble crochet. These sites should
help with all those:

And of course, we would love to see your progress & finished blocks. :D
(I apologize for the length, I tried to cut it but it got completely messed up & I had to redo it.)
