Cloud had followed Leon to Traverse Town, hearing about the strange influx of people and the several thousand worlds winking out of existence. Radiant Garden had been nearly fully restored, so they could leave it alone for a little bit to investigate. Not that he was good with the whole consolation thing, but he could at least help people with information.
The first person he saw was a teen-aged blond who looked rather heartbroken. From the look of things, the kid had barely heard a word the moogle said as he was given his phone and some munny. With a sigh, he walked over. "Need some help, kid?"
Normally, Tidus would have argued over being dubbed a kid by this stranger, but he wasn't focusing on little details like that right now and a human face was a welcome sight. Suddenly being pulled out of his world was hard enough without trying to get accustomed to the talking Moogles. Besides, something about the spiky-haired man told Tidus he could trust him.
"Do you know how I can get back home?" he asked, not startling himself when his voice came out softer than he intended. "Spira," he clarified with more certainty. He wasn't sure when he began to think of Spira as home, but now he knew that it was. Just like with Zanarkand, he had a feeling he wouldn't like the answer. He had to ask though, to know for certain.
Cloud, unfortunately, shook his head. "If you've found yourself here, that means your world has been swallowed by Darkness. There's nothing you can do right now but settle down here until something is figured out."
He wasn't sure how so many worlds at once could have been swallowed up and it was something he wanted to find Sora and talk to him about, Merlin too whenever they got back. It was simply disturbing and made him worry for his own world. It couldn't be swallowed up again, not on his watch.
He remembered it. The cold. He thought it was death. Then again, if he had died, he wouldn't be here right now. Would he?
Tidus couldn't believe this guy. Here he was, relatively safe, while his friends were who knew where. Wherever it was, it didn't sound good, and the stranger was telling him to just settle down?
"Forget that!" His doubt seemed to disappear into determination. "Just tell me where the exit is and I'll figure it out myself!"
Cloud shrugged. "The exit is right behind you. But you can't leave without a Gummi Ship and you can't get one of those till you pay for one. What you got there isn't enough."
The soldier understood the need to want to find his friends, to find out if they were okay. But right now, there was simply know way and if his world was gone, then they could be anywhere if they weren't here.
"The Darkness is a power you can't fight. Not on your own, so I'd suggest staying put until people you know show up. Most arrive here, so it could only be a matter of time."
"Huh?" Tidus turned to the exit and began walking toward it. He stopped soon after to look stare back at Cloud. "Gummi Ship?" It was just another term he didn't really understand. He hadn't thought he'd go through a repeat of let's learn about this new world. At least this time he didn't have to pretend to have memory loss.
"Okay, so how much do I have to pay?" The blitzball player was intent on figuring out the quickest solution, and he would do whatever he had to in order to get a Gummi Ship. He looked unconvinced. "Just because you haven't found a way doesn't mean you can't fight it. Nothing's invincible, and I don't have time! The longer I wait, the more at risk they're going to be. Look, I'll pay later, or I'll work it off, whatever, but I have to get out there and find them!"
"This isn't the first time it's happened, kid," Cloud scoffed, crossing his arms and leaning against the lamppost nearby. "We defeated it once, we'll do it again. But it would help if people didn't get in the way."
Namely, flying a Gummi Ship you didn't know how to fly and wind up needing your ass saved or something. He shook his head and nodded over to one of the shops. "You can ask the owner there, he sells the parts but I doubt he'll let you borrow one. Besides, how do you know they haven't arrived here yet?"
"My name's Tidus," He corrected, and couldn't help but to add, "Star Player of the Zanarkand Abes!"
He narrowed his eyes at Cloud, catching the hint. "I won't get in the way. In fact, I could help. What is this Darkness exactly? I know what it feels like, but that doesn't really explain why it can do what it does." He glanced at the shop, scratching the back of his head in embarrassment. "...Guess I don't know."
"Guess not, Tidus of the Zanarkand Abes," He says this with a roll of his eyes. He doesn't even know what that means. "The Darkness is what fights the Light. It's in your Heart, in everyone's Heart. But someone managed to take control of that Darkness and use it to mess up the balance again. We're not sure who or what is behind it yet."
"Can someone really take control of something that's in your heart?" Tidus asked, thinking the stranger was speaking of the organ in his chest. It all sounded too abstract and superstitious. Kind of like what happened in Spira. He didn't doubt what he saw, but he was skeptical of the explanation. "What do you use to fight it?"
"If you let them," Cloud replied. "The Darkness comes in many forms, I can't tell you the way of fighting them. If you have a weapon though, it should be good enough. Given you're skilled enough."
The only person who could truly defeat the Darkness was the Keyblade Wielder and that was Sora.
"I'm skilled enough." At least he thought he would be, after going on Yuna's pilgrimage. Sometimes it seemed like only a matter of seconds before another fiend would appear. "And I have a weapon." It just wasn't in his hand. Tidus blinked and looked around for Caladbolg. He must have dropped it when he found himself here.
Cloud raised an unimpressed brow. "Right. Well, when you find it, let me know. For now, settle here as best as you can and look for your friends here. Being reckless at this point will only cost you your life."
He pushed off the lamppost and decided to go look for Leon again. He needed to let the other know about the influx of survivors coming in. It was only to easy to see the reasoning behind it all.
Tidus scoffed a little and gave Cloud his most defiant look. "You sound just like Auron!" Sure, this guy probably had no idea who Auron was, but Tidus didn't care.
The warning was ignored by Tidus. He was contemplating just opening the exit himself and jumping out there, because, why not, when he noticed Cloud move. "Uh...what's your name?"
