"NYEH NYEH NYEH HYEH!"

It couldn't be possible. But it was. The Mad Doctor was right there, grinning and cackling in front of Oswald. Worse, he was a ghost.

"Y-you?!" The rabbit backed up to a wall in Sora's living room, his knees knocking violently as he pointed at the apparition. "Why are you here?! Get away! G-go!! SHOO!!"

"NYEH NYEH NYEH" The Mad Doctor snorted, staring at the frightened thing before him. "What's wrong, Oswald? Scared to see me? Your old pal!"

"...You're not my pal!" Oswald shook his head. "Y-you betrayed us! Your home, and your friends!"

"Me? Betray?" The Mad Doctor threw his arms open, snorting as he took a step towards the rabbit. "No! I did no such thing. I was simply helping myself. There is a difference, you see."

At this, Oswald's fear began to turn into indignation. He glared at the ghost, crossing his arms.

"Helping yourself?! You let the Blot hurt all my people! You would have let it destroy the Wasteland!"

"Oh, you say it like the Blot is a bad thing!" The Mad Doctor took another step forward, his grin widening. "Besides, what alternative is there to it? You?"

"...I did the best I could!" Oswald clenched his teeth. "I tried to give everyone who was forgotten a home, a life. It wasn't my fault the Blot came! It was Mickey's-"

"Of course you'd blame him." Another step. "But why not just admit it? You failed. You let this happen and you couldn't stop it. You were a bad king!"

"No...no!" Oswald's shut his eyes tight. "I wasn't--I'm not! I'm a good king-"

"But not as good as Mickey."

The Mad Doctor looked thoughtful, but still with a smirk on his face. He knew how to get to the rabbit, even beyond the grave. He'd done it to get Oswald to trust him, in the past. And he could do it to rile Oswald up. After all, Oswald really never could get over Mickey and his success. Not after all these years.

"Don't." Oswald's hands began to ball into shaking fists. "Don't even-"

"He did a real good job cleaning up your part of this mess! NYEH NYEH NYEH NYEH!" At this, the Mad Doctor gave Oswald a toothy grin. "He's done in a day what you couldn't do in decades. He's cleaning up the town! He even beat me! And all those characters you call your subjects love him. Don't you get it? He's gonna replace you again. You might as well face the facts. Even among the forgotten characters, you're a nobody."

"No." Oswald's anger began to swell at these words. "NO! I'M king of the Cartoon Wasteland! He isn't gonna take nothing from me! I-"

"Ortensia would be just disappointed in you, wouldn't she? Knowing you were a failure." That grin on the Mad Doctor's face just widened. "I wonder what she'd do if she were still alive, knowing how you just let her die."

"...What did you say."

Oswald's hands began to shake even more, his face darkening at those words. No, not just his face - a dark aura began to swirl around his entire body. His very shadow began to warp, in response to the sudden darkness that Oswald's anger emanated as it started turning into full-blown rage.

"I said." Suddenly the Mad Doctor was right up in Oswald's face, his grin as wide as it could ever be. "I think Ortensia would regret ever being with you. Maybe if someone like Mickey'd been with her, she'd be just fine."

That was all Oswald needed, and the dead doctor knew it. That black aura engulfed him, his shadow expanded and split into two, and the next thing the rabbit really knew, aside from seeing red, he was launching at the doctor with a speed and strength not entirely his own, grabbing at his throat, intending to give him whatfor--

--or not. Oswald flew right through the transparent madman, smacking headfirst into the wall on the other side of the living room. It was an instant KO on his part, and the Darkness around him began to dissipate almost immediately. But not entirely. There was still one piece of it left. The split shadow formed into a Heartless, which, uncharacteristically, immediately padded over to Oswald's communicator and picked it up, sniffing and playing with it. It was fun. Was it a Keyblade, perhaps?

Looking at Oswald, and then at the result of his former king's anger, the Mad Doctor began to cackle has he dissipated, his point proven. Coming back from the dead just to see that, even for a brief moment, was well worth it.
