(I checked the 'user info', apparently discussions are ok.)

Hi guys, I'm pretty new to reading comics.
I've just finished reading 'House of M', and I have to say the main story arc and 'House of M: Iron Man' have been two of the best comics I've read so far, but I have a couple of questions and was wondering if others who have read them would like to discuss a few things?

What did Tony want?
Wanda changed reality to give all her friends what they wanted. When Magneto confronts Iron Man at the end of 'HoM: IM', he says, "You dream of being the man your father wanted you to be," but at this point, he doesn't know what Wanda's done. Do you accept this as an explanation for Tony's life in the House of M universe?
Is Tony’s success because that’s what his father wanted for him, so Tony wanted that too? Or is success what Tony wants for himself; what he strives for in 616, but is enhanced by Wanda in HoM (he doesn’t seem to have lost his company at any point; he has a sport to prove himself in)? Or are, perhaps, these successes something 616!Tony could have achieved if he hadn’t been a superhero and/or had had his father around?

Howard
I’ve not actually read any comics with Howard in before, but from what I’ve picked up across the internet, Howard isn’t usually as affectionate to Tony as he occasionally appears in this universe. How does his grand gesture of scheming to get Tony what he thinks he deserves (which is what drives the plot of the three issues) measure up to 616!Howard’s actions?
How does Howard actually die? I don’t think I’ve quite got the hang of interpreting comic book action sequences yet… From what I can work out, Howard tells Tony that the plan is to kill only Magneto, and on cue, Magneto flies up. Then there’s some confusion as the killer Visions go down in flames, during which Magneto tries to kill Iron Man, but fails because of counter-magnets in the armour. And … somehow Magneto’s power is deflected onto Howard who falls into the fire that seems to be pouring off the roof of the tower. Meanwhile, the other Sapien Death Match contestants seem to be falling from the sky?
I dunno, is this what happened? Can Magneto create fire somehow, or is that from the destroyed visionbots. What happens to the SDM contestants?

Iron Man
In Tony’s bio in ‘Secrets of the House of M’, no mention is made of his being wounded and captured. In this universe, it seems that Tony has been allowed to invent the Iron Man suit, and therefore become a hero, without the cost to his health that 616!Tony had to pay. (This could, of course, be an answer the first discussion point.)
In fact, what ‘Secrets of the House of M’ says about the creation of the suit is: “Stark was on the verge of a technological breakthrough when the Mutant-Human War came to an end. Stark had designed an armour suit that could possibly counter the strongest mutants on the planet. In the years since, those suits have been powered down to become part of a game called Sapien Death Match (…) Tony has been secretly working on a special project beneath Stark Industries - a brand new suit of hi-tech armour he plans to use as his new Sapien Death Match suit.”
Presumably the suit was depowered because it was unsafe to use in a game/sport… So would Tony really repower it to more than its original capabilities for the show? I’ve read elsewhere on the internet that he made the new suit to fight for the Sapien Resistence. Are either of these hypotheses satisfying answers for why Tony has an extremely high-powered battle suit ready to go in his basement?

Other ‘HoM: IM’ points of discussion
What did you think of Tony’s drinking?
What do you think of the roles of Johnny Storm, Henry Pym, Flash Thompson and the other Marvel characters featured in this story?
What do you think recurring characters in Iron Man comics are doing in the HoM universe? (Jarvis, Pepper, Happy, etc.)

HoM main story arc discussion points:

Why isn’t Tony wearing the suit in the Last Battle?
The last battle in the HoM universe takes place in Genosha during ‘House of M’ #6 and #7. Tony isn’t in the Iron Man armour, but instead is wearing his suit trousers and shirt… and a uniform jacket similar to the one that Logan is wearing (slightly different to the other members of the Red Guard in that the white front panel is missing.) Tony appears to be fighting with a machine gun.

Why doesn’t Tony remember?
According to http://www.uncannyxmen.net/db/issues/showquestion.asp?fldAuto=3044 :
“Bendis revealed in a post House of M interview that there are three conditions that must all be met for someone to have remembered the House of M. First, they must have been in Genosha when Wanda first warped reality. Second, they must have been woken up by Layla. Lastly, they must have been present on Genosha when Wanda changed reality back. However, why Tony Stark doesn’t remember is odd as he meets all three criteria.”
My only theory is that perhaps Extremis overwrote the memories, or something? (Does he have Extremis at this point? I know both that storyline and ‘HoM’ occur in the pre-Civil War ‘New Avengers’ run, but can’t place them in relation to each other.) Any of you guys have any ideas?

Wow, I babbled on a bit. Hope I didn’t discourage anyone from coming out to play! And if anyone has any tips on how to better incite discussion into these things, please let me know! :)
