warning...rant...
so, there I was having my usual awkward Tuesday night dinner with my Dad when we were seated UNUSUALLY close to a family of people that were not afraid to share what was going on in their lives. Since my Mother and myself have a theory about 'over listening' being different than 'eavesdropping' especially in public places like RESTAURANTS I was sure that this was about to be an interesting situation. Not to be amazingly judgemental, but the family looked as if they could be "white trash"-esque I say this due to the motocross t-shirts, the acid wash jeans, the haircuts, the bad manners, the fact that they had no tact (which is really the point of this entry) etc.
I was already not too excited to be seated near them, because dinners with my Dad are already weird enough and although I do enjoy seeing him once a week as opposed to every few months, like the first few years I was in college, I always initiate conversation and usually follow the same set of questions about his side of my family that I wouldn't otherwise hear from. However, that is when I the 'overlistening' got offensive. Now you must understand that both me AND my father are about 2 feet from this entire family, in plain view. It is very weird for them to already be talking about their troubled finances, and why most of them were late, and when the Mother had to explain what an appetizer was to a junior high/high school aged girl. beh. Anyway...my point...I swear I am getting there. They were planning some sort of birthday party, I believe and the guest list was the discussion when a name came up and the girl oldest daughter who looked maybe 15/16 said
"NO! You don't want her there, she is A bisexual, you don't want her around all the children"
First off she said it like A bisexual, like A leper, THIS GIRL is either in high school or going into high school. I kind of hope she gets her ass kicked real soon by some bisexual folk that she offends. Cause I almost lept over the table myself. And of course the FAMILY AGREED WITH HER THAT SOMEHOW THIS PERSON IN QUESTION WOULD INFECT CHILDREN WITH HER BISEXUAL COOTIES. AHHHHHHHHHH.
so. since people always ASSUME things about me by how I look (and the fact that I just shaved my head again!) I used it to my advantage and shot them a very MEAN very STERN look. I think only the Dad caught it and put the assumption/imaginary peices together. I mean I was still AMAZINGLY offended, but yeah. I wanted to kick all of their asses.
