State of the Mom

For those in the know, my mother's been in pretty bad shape for about a year-and-a-half. It's been enough that it's consumed me and strained my relationships with other people (she is my mother, but I really shouldn't forget about friends).

I'm happy to say things seem to be changing for the better.

Earlier in May, she was hospitalized again. Shortly after I got her home, her Parkinson's seemed to get visibly worse. As a result, I took her into Palo Alto's urgent care, where it was concluded that her Parkinson's had changed and grown worse (as it does, oftentimes).

It was also concluded that her Parkinson's disease had actually been changing all this time now, and it was the culprit behind all her other problems. With the new drug and a physical regimen, things have changed. While she's still using a walker, her endurance has increased greatly.

Case in point: She went to the Farmer's Market with me today.

There's still a way to go (she still prefers me to help her when she goes up the stairs--she has downstairs down to an art), but I'm feeling a lot more hopeful than I have for quite awhile.
