A Doubting Meta
At first, I decided this ep. was ‘OK’ (i.e. slightly on the good side). But on further reflection, I’m reclassifying it as ‘meh’ (i.e. not so good).
The good stuff:
- The dream was interesting…although I’m not sure I saw the point of it. Beyond annoying the ducklings and fuelling the Huddy, that is.
- Wilson knows WAAAAY too much about the Village People, hee.
- House is hawt in glasses…although I keep wondering when exactly he started requiring glasses. I missed that memo.
- Boy, did House have a total Dom moment there when he was telling Cam to shut up and follow his orders? Hey, I can dream.
Yeah, that’s pretty much it.
The bad stuff:
- The Cam/Chase just isn’t working for me. Not only because I don’t ship the pairing, but because it’s incredibly OOC (and inconsistent) for Cam, and paints Chase in a really really bad light. First, do the canon!writers really expect me to buy the fact that ‘Miss Moralistic’ (as they like to portray Cam when it suits their needs) would really have sex with Chase when she’s supposed to be watching the patient? Not to mention the way she’s coldly and contemptuously insulting Chase while egging him into sleeping with her at the same time (does that attitude actually work on guys? I mean really?). Yes, I’m not a Chase fan - he’s a slacker, lazy, and we won’t ever forget Turncoat!W0mbat of S1, but I also don’t believe he’s that stupid or spineless that he’d take that kind of contemptuous crap from her and continue to sleep with her. Or, for that matter, that all it takes is Cam putting her legs up on a counter and that’s all it takes to get him to jump her. *shakes head* Add to that the fact that Chase is now being the voice of reason, saying they can’t do it at work, and it’s like Cam and Chase’s brains switched bodies, or something.
- Note to Foreman: It’s not just the fact she was stoned the last time she slept with Chase, it’s the fact it was DATE RAPE! No cookie for you, Eric.
- While I’m glad to see Vicodin making its return to the show after a 2-3 ep. absence, it’s like the pendulum swung the other way, considering how much he was taking. What the Hell is going on? Do some canon!writers ‘forget’ he’s on Vicodin at all, while others remember he’s an ‘addict’ and use it for extra OMGDRAMA? David Shore, who the heck is checking the scripts for these kind of continuity issues?
- And the whole House can’t pee thing was…wrong and ultimately pointless. First of all, my husband has had multiple surgeries and be catheterized more than once, and he says there’s no way House could sleep with that thing just dangling out of him. Every little twitch and shift (never mind tossing and turning) would hurt like a sumbitch. And never mind it ‘slipping’ out - if you were asleep at that point, the pain would surely wake you up. And yes, even on that much Vicodin. And yes, the whole thing is pointless, because I’m pretty sure, in the grand tradition of this show, that it’s never going to come up or be made reference to, ever again.
- He thinks Cuddy hired him because of ONE NIGHT of sex? You’ve got a high opinion of yourself, boy. Who does he think he is, Dean Winchester?
Lines I liked:
- House to Cuddy: “I can’t sleep [in the Clinic] because of all the crying and coughing.”
- Cam to Foreman: “You’d sleep with Wilson and House before I’d sleep with Chase.” Lord, how I WISH. Gotta love the H/W shout-out the line before, though. :)
- The whole ‘the patient hasn’t had oral sex in a year’ and House’s ‘selfish bastard!’ in reply.
- House to Cam: “I’ve a full bladder and I’m not afraid to use it!”
- House to Wilson: “It’s easy, once you get past the first 9 or 10 inches.” *snort* Yeah, right.
Randomness:
- I didn’t really get the solution to the PotW’s case. How exactly did the ‘merging’ of arteries and veins explain the bacteria in his mouth? The appearing and disappearing tumours? *scratches head*
- Meh, I have to say I’m not pleased AT ALL by how House reacted after catching Chase and Cam in action. That little smile? Suggests not only that he is completely unbothered by it, but that he intends to have some fun with the whole thing. Maybe it’s payback for the kiss last episode, for the fact Cam pulled the syringe on him. I just don’t know. I really wish they’d stop teasing ships and then either ‘ignoring’ said ship for months until teasing it again, or kicking us in the teeth to ‘undo’ whatever progress was made.
- Predictably, I’m not liking the Huddy, either. Granted, I’m biased because it’s not my primary ship, but still…for one thing, I’m really hating how he’s undermining her behind her back (i.e. telling the Ducklings Cuddy is ‘fellating’ the benefactor really seemed inappropriate). At least when he insults her to her face, it makes a kind of sense - he’s trying to get under her skin, he’s sparring with her…so insulting her behind her back, to the Ducklings, to that wheelchair researcher, and all when she’s not even there? It’s the height of disrespectful. Not the kind of man I’d wish on ANY woman. Not to mention how he undermines her every chance he gets in front of important people - like Vogler. Again, it doesn’t make me want them together. Not to mention the inconsistency again. In No Reason, we have House fantasizing about (basically) sex with Cameron. Then it goes nowhere. Now, he has a dream about Cuddy and about a guy she apparently kissed once at a party, and all of a sudden he feels compelled to follow up on it and it becomes this big shippy moment ‘IRL’? Yet the Robot!Sex (and all House’s epiphanies, come to think of it) in No Reason are not? Give me a break. Plus, they’re twisting Cuddy herself, in my opinion. He’s NOT looking at your ass when you’re not looking, honey. No, really, he ISN’T. He only does it when you’re watching, to annoy you. Yes, he WAS making a pain of himself when you were dating, but that could be taken as him being an ass. He’s certainly very good at destroying his friends’ relationships, as Wilson and his ex-wives will attest. Besides, if you’re so SURE it’s about the sex, why not jump each other and just get it over with?
I’m changing my mind. The ep. was a definite ‘meh’.
