Part 4 Okay, that’s it. Quinn thought to herself as she watched the Latina slushie her fourth freshman of the day, and it wasn’t even third period. She hadn’t had a chance to talk to either her or Brit since Friday night, but she had assumed their silence meant that things were at the very least better, but when she watched Santana once again head towards a slushie machine she knew she couldn’t have been more wrong.
She knew she had to intervene soon or her slushie rampage would start to garner faculty attention, but Santana in private she could handle, Santana on the war path, in the middle of the hallway was another matter entirely, because Santana would never back down in public.
So she sighed and watched helplessly as yet another girl got a slushie facial. It turned out Quinn had to wait until after Cheerio practice that afternoon before she managed to corner the girl who was putting some books back into her locker.
“Come with me,” was all she said, talking hold of Santana’s arm and dragging her to a nearby classroom, not unlike Brittany had a few days before.
“What the hell Fabray?” Santana demanded, trying to break Quinns vice like grip and failing.
“Stay here.” Was all Quinn said once they were in the room - she had watched Santana’s reign of slushie terror escalate throughout the day was in no mood to be argued with. Releasing Santana she exited again.
Santana stared after her for a moment, trying to comprehend what had just happened. She momentarily debated leaving, if for no other reason than that she didn’t see what gave Quinn the right to boss her around...then again, it was Quinn.
Santana had just made up her mind that she was going to leave after all when Quinn finally returned, an annoyed looking blond in tow.
“First off, Santana, this slushie rampage of yours has to stop.” Quinn began speaking before either of the other girls even had a chance to even open their mouths “I’ve never complained about your normal slushing habits, but this is just getting out of hand and its enough. Now I don’t know what exactly happened between the two of you but you are going to fix it, and should you decide not to be together you will end it amicably. So sit down,” she dragged two chairs forward so that they were facing each other, “ and sort it out.” Quinn waited, raising an eyebrow and daring either of them to try argue, already knowing that face Santana just sighed and slumped reluctantly into one of the chairs, arms crossed, Brittany followed her lead. “Now, can I trust you two not to kill each other and leave you alone or should I supervise?”
“We’ll be fine Q.” Santana muttered petulantly and Quinn nodded before quickly leaving the room, not really having intended to stay.
Santana gazed at a spot on the floor as they sat alone in silence, determinedly avoiding Brittany’s gaze, even though she could feel the girls eyes practically burning a hole in her forehead. After a moment the she gave out a quiet sigh.
“I don’t want to loose you B.” She mumbled quietly, allowing her gaze to flick to the familiar face before her. Brittany just waited quietly, unflinching “I just got so used to you always being there for me that when I saw you with someone else, someone you had never even mentioned to me I didn’t know how to handle it so I reacted instinctively.”
“I know.” Brittany replied gently, “and to be honest I had been worried you’d go further than a slushie.” She offered a small smile which Santana returned. “I just...I wanted you to understand what I went through every day when I saw you with him, to know why I couldn’t keep putting myself through it anymore. I know now that you will never leave Puck for me and now you now know why I have to leave you.”
Santana felt her heart practically stop at her words. “You want to end things?” she forced the words out of her mouth. Brittany gazed at her sorrowfully, her heart feeling like it was shattering into a million pieces.
“I...I can’t just be watching you from the sidelines anymore.” A few tears trickled down her cheek.
“Then you won’t be,” Santana replied, conviction and determination infusing her words “I know I’ve had a crappy way of showing it but I’ve never considered you to be the one on the sidelines, and if you’ll let me, I’ll make a point, from this moment on, of showing you and everyone else just how important you truly are to me.”
“And Puck?”
“I’ll break up with him.” Santana replied immediately.
“S, I know you don’t want to ...” Brittany responded gently.
“I don’t want to, but not because of love or anything like that. Puck and I are really just friends with benefits who made an unofficial deal to pretend to date - breaking up with him would mean backing out of the deal and though I would rather not, if it means getting to be with you instead, I’m willing to do it.” Santana waited with baited breath
“There really is nothing more between you two?” B clarified, unable to hide the hopefulness in her voice.
“Nothing more than friendship.” Santana assured her, reaching out to take the blonds hand and feeling a surge of hope when she didn’t pull away.
“Alright.” Brittany agreed with a smile, which Santana could not help but mimic.

Quinn glanced up from where she was sitting on the floor across from the door, leaning against the lockers and typing on her phone. She smiled when she noticed the linked pinkies.
“So I take it you two have sorted things out?” She asked, rising to her feet and snapping her phone shut.
“Well, we’re in the process of it. I’m going talk to Puck tomorrow and end things and then, we’re going to make our relationship official.” Santana explained, smiling at the excitement exuding from the blond beside her.
“Good, I’m happy for you guys.” Quinn congratulated, relieved that the fight seemed to finally be over.
“Do you want to join us for some food?” Santana offered reluctantly when it was apparent Quinn had no more to say.
“No, it’s okay. I’m rather worn out after today so I think I’m just going to head home.” She declined, touched by the offer, knowing it was the Latina’s way of showing her thanks - there was no way that after just making up Santana would rather grab something to eat with Quinn than spend some alone time with Brit.
“Okay.” Brittany agreed, bouncing forward to give Quinn a hug. “Thank you for helping us sort this out.” She whispered into the other blonds ear before pulling away and once again linking pinkies with her soon-to-be girlfriend as they headed towards the exit.
