I finally decided to finish this today after
couldbeglorious helped me think of an interruption. I wanted something really random, but nothing was working, and I wanted to post it, so I used one of the given suggestions. Hope you all enjoy reading this...and I'm sure you can guess who comes in the next chapter. Yay.
Summary: Dom moves to Teignmouth and befriends Chris, and later finds romance in Matthew.
- I do not own Muse, and I am nearly 100% sure this never happened.
I arrive at the party alone. I would have come with Chris, but he decided to pick Kelly up - his father the chauffeur of course. I knock on the door, but no one answers. The music’s too loud for them to hear me. I don’t like walking into people’s houses without them opening the door, so I look into the large window beside the door. I see many people inside dancing and eating. Finally someone sees me outside and lets me in.
“You could have just come in you know,” she says with a smile. “I’ve never seen you before. My name’s Malory.” She holds out one hand while twirling her long blonde hair with her other.
“I’m Dom,” I reply. I don’t want to be rude, so I walk with her. She sits down on a corner of Tom’s giant couch and invites me next to her.
“Are you home-schooled or something? Surely if you go to school with us I’d have seen you by now, you’re too attractive to miss. Ooh, or are you an exchange student? Are you from Sweden? I just love the Swedes.”
I feel my cheeks turn pink. I’m not attracted to her at all, but her complement still makes me smile. “Actually I’ve been going to school here for a week, I moved over the semester’s break. Not from Sweden though. I'm very British.”
“Oh. You didn’t happen to bring a girlfriend with you did you?” Malory is really getting to the point.
This is a question I was hoping to avoid for a little bit longer. I’ve never had a girlfriend. My friends in Stockport always bugged me about it, but I don’t feel any attraction to females. I’m not a dishonest person though, so I must answer her truthfully. “No, no I didn’t,” I choke the words out, looking away and trying to find a distraction.
She scoots a little closer to me, and I feel trapped. I can’t tell her how I really feel. No one’s ever known how I feel. I like males. I’m a fairy. If I ever open up, I’ll lose everything. I can’t even accept myself. I just tell people I’m more interested in my studies than sex, though I can tell that excuse won’t work here.
She leans towards my face. “Do you think I’m attractive Dom?”
Oh crap. What am I supposed to do? Everyone knew me in Stockport , so I could easily avoid situations like this, but this is a new environment, and I’ve never had to deal with this before.
I gulp. I have to answer her. If I want to hide who I really am, I have to go along with it. “I-” I begin, but I’m interrupted by someone pulling me up by my shoulder sleeve. I look up and see Tom - my angel from the gods.
“You’re here! Come on, I want to introduce you to some people.” I smile back at him. He’s saved me from certain disaster. After we leave the living room he starts speaking again. “What are you doing? Malory is dangerous, she’ll be fucking you one minute, and the next you’ve been fucked. She’s a backstabber if I ever saw one.”
“I wasn’t actually trying to do anything with her you know. She just decided she liked me and trapped me in a corner. Why’d you invite her if you dislike her so much?”
“She’s fun at parties. Now, I really do have people for you to meet.” He says pulling me into his kitchen. We stop in front of Chris, Kelly and someone else. “This is Kelly.”
The girl grins, flashing her white teeth, lined with purple braces. The colour coordinates perfectly with her frilly shirt and black trousers.“Hello. I’ve heard a little bit about you. So you play drums?” She motions with her hands, attacking the air like a boss.
“Yes I do. I’ve been playing for a few years. Do you play anything?”
“No, I’m not gifted in music. I’m more into sciences. The reason I brought this up though, is that I happen to know someone who’s looking for a drummer, and Chris says he’s too busy to fit it in his schedule at the moment.”
I lean against a counter, eyes big like a puppies. “Really? Who’s looking?”
“His name’s Matt. He’s not here, since Tom doesn’t know him, but I can tell him about you if you’re interested. He’s really energetic and lovable.” She looks at me with a scrunched up smile of hope.
“Yeah, sure. Maybe I could meet up with him at lunch on Monday.”
“Cool. I’ll let him know. He's a tiny brown haired noodle by the way. You won't miss him for the world.”
Tom interrupts our conversation. “This is Scott, we’ve been friends for ages, but he graduated last year.”
“Hello Scott.” I give him a small wave.
“Hello Howard,” he smiles casually.
“What? You don’t have to call me Howard.”
“That’s your name right? Tom, are you giving me wrong names again?”
“Well, it’s my last name.” I shove Tom. These boys are never ending clowns. “I’m Dominic.”
After Scott gives Tom a punch in the shoulder, Kelly decides that we should all go back into the living room and dance with everyone else. We all walk into the crowded room and jump to the beat. Kelly and Chris dance together, Scott and a girl I don’t know dance together, and Tom and I dance together.
Tom smiles, “Why am I dancing with you?” He asks.
“Because I don’t want to dance with the other people you invited.” Tom shrugs and continues his disco moves.
After a long while of dancing we hear a loud thump, muffled by the music. Tom and I stop moving to see what happened. Scared that someone's broken something expensive, we walk into the kitchen, but nothing seems out of the ordinary. That is until one of the guests runs into the room with a very panicked face.
“Shelby just fell down the stairs! I don’t think she’s ok either.” The frightened boy says with rushed speech.
We run over to the stairwell and see a girl, who I recognize from my physics and writing classes, laying on the ground unconscious. The boy who called for our help is now calling for medical help, and Tom asks me to send everyone home while he stays with the girl.
Some people ask if they can stay and help, and some people glare at me for ending their fun, but I manage to send everyone home. I walk back over to Tom, the boy and Shelby (who’s still unconscious on the floor.) “Is there anything else you’d like me to do? Everyone is gone now.”
“No, I think I can manage. You go on home. I’ll call you tomorrow to let you know what’s up.”
I listen to him and walk back to the living room to grab my grey leopard print hoodie off the couch. An ambulance pulls up to the house as I’m leaving, and I hold the door for the medics. I really hope the poor girl is ok.
After a short bus ride that feels like hours, I’m finally home. I open the door and my mom jumps, as she was right in front of it.
Grabbing her heart, as though I'd almost knocked it out of her ribs, she exhales. “Goodness, you scared me. What are you doing home? I thought you were at a party.”
“Someone got hurt. A girl from a couple of my classes fell down the stairs. I’m not sure how, but she didn’t look so good when I left.”
“Oh dear. Is someone helping her?”
“Yes, the medics arrived just as I was leaving.”
“Well that’s terrible. I hope she’s ok. I’m going to take out the trash now, but you let me know how she’s doing. And let me know how you're doing too. Something like that effects a boy.” My mom looks really concerned. I am too.
---
I wake up at 11pm from my mobile ringing. I hadn’t noticed I'd fallen asleep. I look around for my phone and find it on the floor.
“Hello?”
“Dom. Hey, it’s Tom. Wow, our names rhyme. I never noticed that. Anyways, I’m calling about earlier.”
“Yeah, how is she?”
“She’s ok. Well, she has a broken neck, but she’s alive and walking. So I suppose she's half ok.”
“A broken neck? That’s awful. Do you even know how she fell?”
“She says she’s just clumsy and tripped on her way down. I hope that’s all it is. I didn’t see anything there that could have caused her to fall.”
“Well at least she’s alive, I guess. I still feel bad for her. Who was the guy who saw it happen?”
“Who? Oh, Stephen. The one who told us? Yeah, he was pretty scared. He came to the hospital to check up on her too. I think he fancies her.” Tom clacks his tongue. "He brought her flowers."
“Well that’s sweet. He seems like a nice guy. It’s hard to find people like him now.”
“Yeah, well you helped a lot too. Thanks.”
“Not really, I just sent everyone home.”
“Yes, but you kept everyone calm. And sending everyone home was very helpful, I don’t think Shelby would’ve liked a huge sodding crowd around her.”
I smile, proud at myself for getting such nice complements. Tom and I share a few more words and we call it a night. Despite all the insanity of almost having to flirt with a girl, and Shelby falling, I had a really great night. I’m glad I had such an easy time making friends, and I’m glad the friends I made are such great ones.
