Way to many exclamation marks there... still, I haven't crested five yet. That is the true sign of madness.
Since this is absolutely bloody huge, I'll cut it.
How to begin. Well, I really enjoyed it. Really, really.
Tennant is very good, bursting with energy but still in possession of anger, and there is a definite dynamic between him and Rose that is different than before. I think Rose was always a bit wary of 9, but with 10 she has got over that (kiss in preview! The fangirl inside me is screaming!)
This probably isn't a good time, but I have to voice my worries as well. Tennant seemed a little too hyperactive in the Sycorax scene. Though no doubt he was very good, and funny and all the rest of it, that character would be increasingly hard to live with for a whole series. It would get very old very fast, so I hope Tennant has some more tricks up his sleeve. We have seen his darker side in HP, and in the way he glares at Harriet, so I hope that is brought out. (Preview again: Give her back to me... that was good anger.)
I'm sorry, but I worship Chris, and though I appreciate that Tennant needs to rework the character he can't take it too far from the Doctor's core values. I am putting his wisecracking down to regeneration energy.
That said, I did think he was very good, and will bring the series great sparkle. After the Harriet/Torchwood bit he calmed down a little, and the ending was positively sweet, with him wondering if she still wanted to come.
Rose rocked, Micky managed to pull off the amazing stunt of actually making me like him (I have hated him for the whole 1st series), Jackie was still annoying but neccessary. Harriet really surprised me! I always liked her, and I don't really see why they needed to have her commit a vicious act of murder with a suspiciously Death Star piece of apparatus. I hope that is justified later, otherwise it will have been a stupid move.
The CGI was wonderful, and the story was good.
Now - have voiced my doubts, on to the stuff I did like!
1) The moment when you realise the Sycorax leader is now speaking English, and they all turn to the TARDIS. "...Miss me?"
2) "Have we asked about the Royal Family? Ah. They're on the roof."
3) "You see, from the day they arrive on this planet and, blinking, step into the sun, there's more to see than can ever be seen, and more t- Hold on. No, that's the Lion King."
4) The TARDIS crash.
5) The TARDIS wardrobe, and the Doctor's new clothes! Suits are in!
6) "It's going to be... fantastic."
7) "You really love him, don't you?"
8) "Don't you challenge me, Harriet Jones! I can bring your government down with a single word."
9) The 'turned to bones' bit. Gruesome, but effective.
10) The Hitchers reference! Arthur Dent!
And the thing as a whole, really. I have these little worry-bunnies that come and bounce around inside my brain whenever I'm not sure of anything, and they're having a regular party about Tennant in the series... but in the end, all his lines are written by the Writers. All he does is bring them to life. And he's got the ambience right - very Doctor.
I'm just so happy it's back on! So when is Spring, anyway?!?
