Halloween
“Perfect,” Lia took a step back and proudly examined her work.
Tsukumo gave an agreeing nod whilst digging into his bag of caramelized nuts to take out a new handful to pop in his mouth. His sister leaned in and peered closer at Hotsuma and the little costume Lia had designed for the orange cat. Well, orange was a bit farfetched currently as Lia had died Hotsuma’s entire fur black, stating that an orange vampire cat just wouldn’t work. Instead of being scary Hotsuma would have been downright ridiculous then, or so she had exclaimed.
Hotsuma lifted his left paw and pushed against the right sharp canine that stuck out of his mouth. Immediately Lia stepped up to him and slapped his paw away. “Careful,” she admonished. Her hand reached out and carefully prodded the fake canine tooth to make sure it still sat in its rightful place.
Hotsuma grumbled under his breath. He really didn’t get why he had to dress up too for Halloween. He was a freaking cat for God’s sake. Wasn’t that dressed up enough?
“Oh my,” a joyful voice drifted through the hallway and announced the arrival of the Zweilts’ Masters. Rou Reizen had various white bandages wrapped around his body, his exposed skin colored sickly greenish pale with here and there some blood clotted wounds. The wounds looked very realistic and a shudder ran through Hotsuma’s body. Senshiro, whom had designated himself as their man to go to for their makeup that evening, truly knew his stuff. Thankfully Shizuka Usui had gone for a less confronting costume. He wore a classy old looking suite and his face had been divided in two parts. One looking normal and kind whilst the other held a dangerous glint and a devious and horrible smirk, a good representation of the struggle of Dr. Jekyll and whom he housed within himself. On the side of Hyde’s face were darkish brown spots on the suite to represent dried up blood from his victims.
Rou stopped right in front of Hotsuma, crouched down and filled up Hotsuma’s entire line of vision. “Don’t you look adorable!” Rou cooed, reaching out and tapping lightly on one of the little black leathery wings that protruded seemingly out of Hotsuma’s back. The little wing vibrated slightly, making Rou squeal some more. “I could just eat you!”
“Please don’t. I’m still hoping to get him reverted back to his human self and have my partner back.”
Hotsuma released a pleased sound as he heard Shusei’s voice. He leaned sideways and peered past his Master’s broad body. Right behind Rou stood Shusei, also already completely dressed up and to Hotsuma’s big but mostly pleased surprise, as a vampire, making him and Shusei fit together.
A happy meow escaped Hotsuma’s mouth anew and drew Shusei’s attention to him. The brunet stepped past their Master and crouched down beside Rou. He held out his hands to Hotsuma. “Come on,” he spoke, “Tachibana put us on trick or treat duty for the upcoming hour.”
Hotsuma quickly walked over to his partner and let Shusei scoop him up, the brunet careful and mindful of his little bat wings. Shusei straightened back up and turned to go only to be stopped by their Master who had seemingly out of nowhere pulled forth his cell phone.
“Hang on,” the older man spoke, one finger raised in the air. “Surely you don’t want your Master to miss out on this opportunity to get a shot of his two most favorite students looking all classy and cute together.”
Hotsuma rolled his eyes. Of course they were their Master’s two favorite students. The idiot only had two students. Still he let Shusei maneuver him to the brunet’s shoulder so he could sit there and look proudly at the camera.
Satisfied after a few snap shots, Rou waved his students off, the man already busy cooing over the pictures that now adorned the screen of his cell phone and showing them off to Shizuka, asking the other man to help him chose which one should become the new background on his phone.
“Oh My God!” Rou’s voice suddenly boomed through the hallway, loud enough so Shusei and Hotsuma could also hear it on their way to the staircase. “Shizuka! Look what I found! A site to pimp the pics in true Halloween theme! Isn’t Hotsu adorable with his little witch hat?! And look at the added black spider! Oh God, look, I can make his eyes glow!”
Hotsuma grumbled under his breath. If he ever discovered who had introduced his Master to cell phones and more importantly to how to use the device to go on the net, there’d be hell to pay. And not the kind hell of a sweet “trick” but the true hellish fire eating flames one.
Caught up in his inner mussing Hotsuma nearly missed Sairi whom passed him and Shusei on the stairs. The blond was dressed as an elegant warlock and his dragon slit eyes were glued to the screen of his phone, the older Zweilt snickering over whatever he was looking at. Curious Hotsuma turned in Shusei’s arms and tried to sneak a glance at what had Sairi so captivated. A pimped up picture of him and Shusei was staring right back at him with a thank you message from Rou in big letters above the picture.
Everything slowed down, his muscles tensed and then before Shusei could strengthen his hold on him, Hotsuma leaped out of Shusei’s arms and started a mad dash after Sairi whom at least had the presence of mind to run for it.
Sairi rounded the corner at the top of the staircase and sprinted into the hallway, the Murasame siblings, Lia and the two Zweilt Masters at least having the presence of mind to quickly jump aside and give him a free pass.
“Oh look!” Lia squealed enthusiastic as Hotsuma came flying past them at neck breaking speed. “His little wings work! They are going up and down as he runs!”
Lia and Toko clasped their hands together and jumped enthusiastic up and down as they squealed together over the cuteness of Lia’s costume for Hotsuma.
Rou stared with big eyes after his student before he suddenly snapped out of his stupor. “So cute! I need to have that on tape! Sairi!” he yelled as he took off after the warlock and bat-like cat. “How do I again record a video with my cell phone?!”
Shizuka shook his head as he stared after Rou’s disappearing figure. “I think I’m going to help my nephew with the door duty,” he announced after which he turned on the ball off his feet and started towards the main entrance of the Twilight Mansion.
“We should get our makeup done also, Toko,” Lia spoke up to the other female Zweilt.
“Right,” Toko agreed. She turned around to her brother. “Tsukumo, do you …” she started only to trail off as the spot where her brother had just been standing a few second ago was empty. “What?!” she spoke confused for a moment before suddenly her eyes turned large and she threw a terrified glance over her shoulder at Lia. “You don’t think he has made his way to the basket full of treats for the children, right?”
Lia remained deadly silent for a second before the girls simultaneously sprung in action and spurted for the staircase.
“Tsukumo! If I find you with your hand in the candy basket!” Toko yelled whilst Lia wailed: “If you keep snacking, you won’t fit in your costume anymore! And do you know how much time I put in creating it?!”
The group of children that stood at the door and were receiving candy from Shusei and Shizuka, stared with big eyes past the two brunets at the two dressed up witches racing past, their capes bellowing after them as they disappeared through one of the inner doors.
“All part of the Halloween decor,” Shizuka smiled reassuringly at the children.
Cries of pain suddenly filled the air, the cries high pitched and boarding on inhuman.
“Sound tapes,” Shusei spoke up, drawing the wide eyes of the children towards him. “Have a wonderful Halloween,” he smiled politely.
The door closed in the children’s face, the group of kids standing for a few moments longer restless on the doorstep before they turned and started to descend the few steps that led up to the big front door. Suddenly a huge grin broke free on one of the children’s faces. “This is so the best and coolest Halloween decorated house we’ve come across so far!”
Another kid grinned back. “I am so coming back here next year!”
A chorus of agreement rose up as the group of kids walked through the front gate and turned left to go and hit the next house. Behind them a new wave of pitiful wails rose up, making the next arrived group of children pause for a second in their steps at the gate before they broke out in an enthusiastic run towards the front door of the Twilight Mansion.
“Trick or Treat!”
A blood curling cry answered their call …
Author's note: Yes, I know. Once again a mad dash from Hotsuma after people, I sincerely apologize for my lack of creativity. *bows apologetic* But in my defence ... it just fitted here. Or in other words: it was the only thing I could come up with to create an ending I was satisfied enough with to actually also publish it here. God, I seriously do lack creativity :-(
Author's note 2: And of course if you have favourite characters, whom you feel didn't get enough air time in the manga, then you grab any excuse to make them pop up in your own writing ... so have some Rou and Shizuka :-)
