Hotsuma's kitty-cat tales: Visit ...

Jul 29, 2017 21:21

The inspiration for this little drabble came from the fact that both Leiya and I had family obligations last weekend :-)  Thankfully our families are no where near Hotsuma's parents ...

Spoilers: The aweful relationship Hotsuma has with his parents (but if you don't know about this yet, then you clearly haven't progressed yet far in the serie).  Shusei having been a female in previous lives (mentioned in a small side story).

Disclaimer: I don't own Uraboku.  This is just fan fiction.

Visit …

Despite wanting to be everywhere else but here, Hotsuma remained where he was and did his best to be a well behaved cat and not hiss or growl at his parents who were sitting across from him and Shusei.

When Tachibana had come looking for him in Shusei’s room, he had at first refused venomously to come down and greet them. He had been convinced that being turned into a cat would get him a free pass but somehow his parents had already known what had happened to him and had come by to check on him.

Hotsuma huffed under his breath. Right, as if he really didn’t know what their real agenda was. They only ever showed up at the Mansion, under the pretense of being worried for their son’s well-being, when they needed money. They were so transparent.

Hotsuma’s mother put her teacup back on its saucer and leaned slightly forward to place it on the low coffee table in front of her. As she looked back up her gaze landed anew on Hotsuma and Shusei. “It truly is a miracle, isn’t it, dear?” she asked her husband, turning her attention to Hotsuma’s father who was sitting beside her.

Hotsuma’s father nodded. “Indeed. You have grown into a fine, well behaved, young man, Hotsuma. I am proud of you son.”

“Of course I am sure that we owe a big gratitude for this to your partner,” Hotsuma’s mother looked back over at Shusei. “You always did seem to know how to handle our son, didn’t you, Shusei?” she smiled after which she released a saddened, disappointed sigh. “It truly is too bad you are a boy in this life time, Shusei. You and Hotsuma could have made such a dashing couple.”

A cold smile came to adorn Shusei’s face. “It is what it is I fear. My apologies, Mrs. Renjou,” he said politely whilst beside him Hotsuma bristled inwardly. As if anyone present in the room truly bought her excuse of the dashing couple, Hotsuma thought. Shusei, he and Tachibana all knew very well what had lain behind her words. If he and Shusei would have married and would have succeeded in getting Zweilt heirs after all, his parents would have been able to claim even more money from the Giou clan. As it was, now they could only get an allowance for one Zweilt and although this allowance far succeeded a normal wage, it still never was enough for Hotsuma’s parents.

Hotsuma stood up and jumped off the couch. He had enough. He was done playing this charade.

“Oh, Hotsuma,” his mother too got to her feet and called after him but he ignored her call and briskly made his way out of the living room. As he entered the hallway he could hear Tachibana clear his throat.

“Mr. and Mrs. Renjou,” Hotsuma could hear Tachibana say, “I received your letter and I assure you we are doing everything in our power to restore your son back to his human self as soon as possible. Of course we understand your concern for his wellness. Takashiro-sama hopes this may help ease your worries a bit,” rustling of a piece of paper was heard, Hotsuma seeing in his mind eye how Tachibana handed his parents a check that contained probably way too many zeros for those leaches to deserve.

Hotsuma scoffed. At least now that the real reason for their visit was being dealt with, they would soon leave anew.

Golden orange cat eyes looked to the front door and fell on his mother and father’s shoes standing innocently to the side on a dirt catching mat. For some strange reason Tachibana had started to take to none of them still being allowed to wear their shoes inside. A huge shoe closet now decorated the left wall next to the front door. It contained slippers for all of them, which they had to change into in the hallway after entering, and also a few pairs in various sizes for possible guests.

Hotsuma tiptoed closer to his parents’ shoes. He looked left and right and seeing no one, he positioned himself near his mother shoe after which his body started to convulse as he willed a hairball up out of his stomach which he deposited right in her shoe. His father’s shoe wear received the same treatment after which he hopped over to the staircase and trudged upwards with a happy swish in his tail.

In Shusei’s room, Hotsuma settled anew on the bed, his partner coming inside not much later and coming to a halt as his golden-green eyes took in Hotsuma. “Forgive me the wording, but don’t you look like the cat that just got the canary. Normally you are in a sour mood for hours after having seen your parents.”

Hotsuma just looked smug back at Shusei. The brunet would know soon enough the reason for his good mood.

A startled female cry suddenly rose up from downstairs, followed by a disgusted male cry.

Shusei’s eyes turned to his door for a second before his attention landed back on Hotsuma, one of his eyebrows raised in the silent assumption: Your doing, I take it?

Hotsuma grinned back. Payback truly did feel nice.
