I feel it in my fingers,
I feel it in my toes.
Christmas is all around me,
and so the feeling grows.
Watched Love Actually instead of actually planning for the week. And prior to that, a Julia Roberts tribute special. Preceding that was lots of shoveling. Too bad storm didn't start later. Snow day tomorrow would have been amazing.
I had a nice weekend. :) This week is going to be terrible, though. I am sure that my kids will be absolutely off the wall due to the holidays and the very close vacation. Front page of the paper this morning: 2 guys (late teens/early twenties) stole a tree from the Ninety Nine Restaurant. The tree had the gift wishes of the children at St. Ann's. Assholes. Luckily, they did not take any gifts. The kids are lucky if they get one gift a piece. I read the wish list of the students online. Then I tried to determine which ones my students may have requested.
It makes me really sad to think about my students at Christmastime. St. Ann's does a lot for them around this time of year and they try to make it as happy as possible. Some kids even go on a home visit with family, but not all. I just cannot imagine how horrible it is for them.
We are not allowed to do any holiday things at school. Apparently this is new this year, the other teachers were saying/ranting about. I think it is absurd. I know these children have difficulties around this time of year, but that does not mean they should not enjoy learning about the holidays. And they should be learning about all the different holidays that are celebrated this time of year. It's sad that I have all this knowledge on diversity and how to adapt curriculum to be multicultural but cannot use during this time. I will just be sure to throw in lots of "winter" fun things this week. Plan on keeping the workload very light. Speaking of, I should probably go and get things all set for the week. ::prances off::
