Im in virginia, about 35 minutes from D.C. A town house right now that is not in a bad part of town is around 250K which has dropped from the 300's. Though, that still can get you in a bad part of town. If you are in the army, which I am thinking I am right you need to check out joining USAA. They have a deal with if you use their real estate agent that they will line you up you get money back and such. So would look into that. We have been using a real estate agent through them and have been very happy with him. We have been looking for a year now. A lot of homes have been trashed. The other thing is around here they do not have to disclose if they have a mold problem, abestos ect. You have to do your research. In South Carolina they had to reveal all that prior to sale. I am paying 1200 a month in rent which is pretty cheap for hear. A lot of places are 1500 to 1700 a month. If you tell me what area you want to look at I will ask around work because I work almost in d.c and work with people from all over from maryland, pa, west va ect. And see what I can find out for you and if anyone knows of a good realestate agent. There are some shady ones, we went through a few before we went through USAA. Another heads up. Taxes on a 250K townhouse is about 5K a year. May be a less in the county you are looking into. You also need to look at the commute as well. 10 miles here is not 10 miles anywhere else. My commute at times can be as long as 1.5 hours and as short as 30 minutes. There are a few apartments that will rent for a short as three months. Is base housing an option? Sorry if I have bad grammer, I am on some good drugs right now.
