You Are Not a Dumb American

You got 8/10 correct.
You know a good deal about American history, but there's some basic facts you have wrong.
Time to go back to history class!
Are You a Dumb American?

I think I messed up on the Civil War dates :x Sorry! LOL I'm not sure what the other one I have wrong was. But, at least I am NOT dumb ;p (about you guys anyway lol!)

mmmm Wal-Mart... LMAO!!!!! Really, what's so great about that place? It's not like it's Ikea or anything, right? :P

Aww. Would you like to be a social worker??

The funny thing is, you probably did better that most actual Americans ;P Me on the other hand, I'm afraid I know little to nothing about other countries. I know it's terrible, I really should brush up on my World History!

I <3 Wal-Mart! It's probably part of the small town thing too, Wal-Mart was just the place to go sometimes most the time. Besides, they really have just about everything. Super Wal-Marts have a full grocery store (including bakery, deli, produce, pharmacy etc...) so you can get all sorts of whatever you need all in one place. The only thing you really can't find at one is specialized products, like name brands (ie: Nike shoes etc...) but everything else you can usually find. I've heard of Ikea but never seen or been to one.

Actually I did think about Social Work for awhile, I used to do a lot of work with Child & Family Services and the community and such but several years ago just started tapering off doing stuff and eventually just stopped. Haven't considered it since but I'm not so sure I would want to do it anymore either. I would love to be able to help people & kids (and I know this sounds so pessimistic) but the bad so far out weighs the good sometimes that it's can become quite overwhelming. And I don't totally agree with all the ideals/goals of "the system" at least not in Missouri. *shrugs*

Hee. Thanks for the compliment!

Well, I suspect you probably know more than you think you do. Most Trekkies are smart! :D

I remember when K-Mart was big. Is Walmart like a super K-Mart? (No K-Marts here btw). I know we've talked about Walmart before but I'm afraid my memory is failing a little :x

Oh, I know what you mean re: Social Service being overwhelming. Another teacher friend of mine and myself thought seriously about it and were geared up to take courses so we could do it. She did some volunteer work and was extremely depressed at the stupidity of some of it. Kids trapped in violent homes etc b/c of some moronic rule or some stupid red tape had to be done BEFORE removal and stuff like that. I also knew a welfare officer online who was on medical leave for depression b/c she was burned out. I know Social work is very depressing and disheartening so I understand your pessimism. :( Anyway, the course collapsed so we never got to do it. After realizing it could be SO disheartening, I've had second thoughts. That said, I still wouldn't mind doing something to help Children/Teens - as I really do feel deeply about them and believe it my forte.

I'm really impressed you tried :)

K-Marts are like Wal-Mart but IMHO aren't as good. At least the ones around here are more expensive and have less selection of things. I go to K-Mart because they occasionally have good deals but typically with with Wal-Mart. Super Wal-Marts have a fully grocery section (with like a fresh meat dept/produce etc...) K-Marts (like our Super K) only have a few aisle of food and some frozen stuff. And the food is never on sale and is always more expensive.

And that's the most frustrating thing about that kind of work (similar can be said about police etc...) no matter how hard you try to help, in the end you still feel like your losing the battle. Unfortunately, I don't see things changing much to encourage growth in the right direction anytime too soon. Hopefully as times change with the right people behind the wheel things can be improved not only for the kids but for the workers as well.

I guess the Australian K-Mart's were like the Wal-Marts then. (I actually worked in K-Mart when I was 16 heh). It had loads and loads of stuff and different departments and all - including fresh meat/fish etc. I remember it was where I bought many of my Trek figures /geek hee.

I can totally see what you mean. And you're right, it IS frustrating :( We can indeed only hope and pray things change for the better. I'm always surprised governments can't seem to get it right. Children, to me, are absolutely the most important thing we have - they (and struggling families) should be the highest priority. I don't get why that seems such hard thing to grasp & achieve. *heavy sigh*

oooo! you're K-Mart sounds fun! Ours are pretty boring *loves Wal-Mart better* and especially if they had Trek figures!! I find good stuff like that at Wal-Marts and Targets but not so often at K-Mart. They have it, just not such a selection as the others. Except our K-Mart here is the only place in town that gets the new Star Trek magazines, so that makes them a little cool in my opinion ;P

I don't get it either, it's nearly maddening thinking about it sometimes. It's almost like people want it to be difficult and not get it right sometimes. :/

How strange that your K-Mart is the only place to get the magazines!? O.o Wow. See? K-Mart > Wal Mart ;p

Oh, I know. It is maddening. Infuriating even. It's easy to despair over it all :(

On a lighter note - LOL@ the icon!
