Patrick Stewart interview from the "Captain's Log" collective

Jul 27, 2007 20:44

By request for mrs_picard and anyone else who is interested. :) They weren't as long and I thought they were going to be but still quite interesting. And I also took a few screenshots to accompany my little synopsis. Be warned, it's a little image heavy under the cut!

There were 5 questions each Captain were asked and like I said above, it seemed a lot shorter then I figured they'd be. Because they were fairly short, I remembered his answers well, I probably could have typed it word for word if I really wanted to lol. There's also new forwards by each Captain at the beginning of the episodes but I haven't watched any of the eps just yet. Anywhere here the interview be:

Importance of the Captains Log
When asked about how important the Captain’s Log was he said it was quite important because it helped move the narrative forward without having to shoot scenes. And it also provided a way to show the audience Picard’s private thoughts without having him tell them to someone else.

Playing a Captain
He said when he hears the term “Captain” as it’s applied to him, it makes him think of his father who was a senior something (sorry I don’t know the word he used) in the British Army. He said that he was the only one of three sons that never did military service and that his father died before he made it in Hollywood but that he would have gotten a kick out him being called a Captain.

He said in New York especially, he’ll be out and about in the city and someone passing by would yell out “Hey Captain!” and that there was a time when it would irritate him but now he feels immensely flattered about it.

He said he had a line in the play Anthony & Cleopatra when he calls himself Captain and he’s been waiting for the night when the audience laughs about him saying it but that it hasn’t happened yet.

Looking Back
He said when he thinks of Star Trek he thinks of friendship because of the friends he has made from the show are rock solid. He says they are very important in his life and named pretty much all the main cast and said its hard now because he’s moved away to the UK. He said he can recall births, deaths and marriages of the cast but don’t ask him what season a specific episode was in because he probably wouldn’t remember, except for some of the episodes from the first and last season.

Star Trek and the stage
He said that he doesn’t connect any of the stage work he does now to what he did on Star Trek because they were two very different things. He said it’s more like he’s is connecting to what he was doing before TNG and that he really likes stage and classical theatre and that he hopes to continue doing it.

He said once while performing in The Tempest, he was walking past the green room and they had a TV on and people laughing from inside. He went in and they were watching, he called it “The Robin Hood” episode of TNG and everyone cheered at him and he even laughed at himself because his life doing TNG was different than performing on the Stage.

Picards Future
He quoted the line from the last episode and talked about Picard sitting down to play cards and said that at the point Picard probably realized that he needed more interaction and personal relationships in his life. He thinks that maybe Picard wouldn’t choose to become an Admiral after all but perhaps might simply retire and run a vineyard. He chuckled about it and that was the end.

Is it just me or does he look frighteningly similar to Robin Williams here? :O
