my rec:
This is such brilliant, clever overlooked tale. The SGA/Star Trek Reboot fits together so well. The SGA characters going to Starfleet Academy, and eventually facing the big bad, won't be a surprise if you've seen the movie, but the eventual conflict is where the beauty of this particular fusion totally shines. Maud does a wonderful thing with the fusion in the latter half of the the story, completely organic to the SGA half of the mashup and I couldn't decide between holding my breath, or squeeing out loud. The absolutely wonderful title -- from Alfred Bester's classic novel -- seems random until the climax and denouement, then it becomes a thing of beauty, almost bringing said novel in as the third fusion.
I really appreciated the hard work went into this story, with the thoughtful blending of the 2 'verses, and a sensibility that reads like the best SF novels.
n.b. chapter 9 on DW has a bit of a posting oddity, just keep scrolling down past the doubling posting of chapter 8. Search for 'Nine'.
