Why This Must Be Read:  In her own inimitable style, in Warmth, the author presents a deft little character study of Daniel Jackson that is a slash story with no slash pairing.  Taking us back to his academic days in Chicago, we see a Daniel Jackson struggling financially to even heat his apartment and dealing with fellow students and colleagues offering him various levels of friendship mixed with bitterness and resentment.  The author's style is brittle and hard-edged, perfectly accentuating and reflective of these relationships and the solution one "friend" suggests for Daniel's money woes.  Daniel discounts this suggestion, but it nevertheless leads him to wonder about himself, leads the reader to wonder about the possibilities in his future, especially with the spare, subtle language of his last spoken line.

Author's Summary:  "A look into Daniel's past."
