Why This Must Be Read: The premise for the AU itself is interesting--Vala was picked up by SG-1 long, long before season nine, and is around when Sha're dies. Add to this some nice Daniel/Vala dialogue, and this fic tells a very taught "what if" story.
Vala sits, shifts. Purses her lips, relaxes them. Pouts. Smiles a little. Walks up and down the room once. Freezes when his glasses hit the table very softly and he rubs his eyes, fixing her with a glare.
"What are you doing here, Vala?"
She shrugs. "I don't know. I thought you'd like the company."
He blinks and looks away, then back. "You know my wife just died, right?"
