Why this must be read: This is one of two ever Sheppard/Cadman fics that I found, and I still go back to read it once in a while. The author's premise is an AU where the Atlantis crew had to leave, leaving Elizabeth behind. The setting is in the demilitarized zone between North Korea and South Korea, with Cadman working as leader of a security detail team and Sheppard... well. That would be telling.
What I really love about this fic is the subtlety and the hesitant and very, very slow way how Sheppard and Cadman get closer to each other. They're both wounded people and I always loved it that amitee gave us only a glimpse of what caused those emotional scars since it makes them both very much in character. The entire slightly distant tone of the fic makes it all the more intense and for me, it's kind of the Sheppard/Cadman fic out there.
