The author does an amazing job of portraying the Jack we saw in the original Stargate movie, one in bleak despair and closed off from the rest of the world, and a Daniel facing his own desperate situation with his own individual brand of courage, intelligence, and ability to touch people in ways that matter. And, in so doing, the author reaffirms the authenticity and uniqueness of the connection between Jack and Daniel by perfectly capturing it here, just under different circumstances.
