Why this must be read: Summary: John Sheppard goes back in time on what's supposed to be a simple mission, but ends up in the wrong timeline. Time-traveling fics, alternate realities, there but for the grace of God, and all that jazz. What more could you ask for? This fic is an oldie, but a goodie. What would have happened if Elizabeth Weir had never joined the Atlantis Expedition. Granted, this story is told from John's POV, so it might be more appropriate to rec it for his category rather than Weirs. But still, fantastic little story that explores a what-if beautifully. ;)
May 3, 2004: Antarctica
Doctor Weir's office was a tiny, freezing room just off of the main complex. John settled himself gingerly into the chair across from her -- thankfully, it didn't have nearly the same reaction as the last chair that he'd sat in -- and looked up at her.
She paced around the desk to stand in front of him, leaning against the edge of the wood. "Major Sheppard, I asked to speak to you because --" But she broke off, then, and frowned down at him. "Have we met before?"
He draped an arm over the back of his chair and smiled up at her. "Why, Doctor Weir, are you trying to use a line on me?" he teased, even though he was pretty sure that wasn't what she meant.
The corners of her mouth quirked upwards into a brief smile. "No, I meant -- I think I've seen you before. Have you ever been to Brown University?"
He shook his head. "Can't say as I have. Why do you ask?"
She shrugged. "I met a guy named John there, the beginning of my freshman year of college. He looked a lot like you." Her smile was oddly warm, despite the hard lines of her face. "He was actually the one that talked me into sticking with political science. I probably would have been a philosophy concentrator, without his intervention."
"Well, it must have been my evil twin, then, because I've never been to Brown."
