“Sleep Over” (1/1)
by Lisa Michelle
Daniel thanked the officer, went inside his quarters and shut
the door. “Give me the key,” he said, not looking at Vala even
though he knew she was already in the room.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She turned around
in the desk chair to face him.
“Vala, it’s late and I’m tired.” He looked at her. She was
wearing a black lace low-cut nightgown that barely came to mid-thigh
and looked ready to jump into bed.
“Would you believe it if I told you I came in here to read
and just couldn’t tear myself away from this book on your desk?”
“The book that’s sitting there unopened?” he said.
“Well, it was open, I just closed it -“
“C’mon, Vala, you can do better than that,” he told her. “And
the answer is no. I’m not having sex with you.”
“You don’t know why I’m here,” she argued.
“To return the keycard you stole from me.” He saw it on the
desk, grabbed it and slid it into his pocket. “I had to tell them I
lost it so I could get back into my quarters tonight.”
“You didn’t lose it,” she said. “You misplaced it.”
“You stole it,” he clarified.
“Borrowed,” she corrected. “And you’ve got it back. So no harm
done.”
“Vala, what do you want?” He crossed his arms over his chest.
“It’s after eleven and I just want to go to bed.”
“Well, bed is why I’m here, darling.” She smiled at him and
stood up.
“I already told you, I’m not sleeping with you.”
“Do you know how many men would jump at the chance to sleep
with me?” she said.
“Then go find one of them,” Daniel told her.
Vala was a little hurt by his remark, but she shrugged it off.
“I was just about to tell you why I’m here.”
Daniel looked around the room. “Where are your clothes?”
“Daniel -“
“Never mind,” he said. “You can just wear my shirt back to
your quarters.” He started to unbutton his green shirt.
Vala ignored him and grabbed a black duffel bag that sat on
the floor next to his desk.
Daniel couldn’t help but look when her nightgown rode up as she
bent down to retrieve the bag. He did notice she had panties on,
and was a little surprised to discover that fact. He quickly averted
his eyes as she headed over to the bed with her bag.
“I want to have a sleep over party with you,” she told him as
she unzipped the bag.
“What?”
“A sleep over party,” she reiterated. “You know when -“
“Yes, I know what a sleep over party is,” he said. “But why -“
“I brought snacks.” She dumped the contents of her bag all over
his bed.
Daniel saw the assorted junk food, sodas, and magazines that
littered his bed. He picked up one other item in particular. Fuzzy
pink handcuffs. “And these would be for?”
“Oh, those,” she said. “Well, I was a bit optimistic.”
“Very optimistic,” he corrected. “Put these back in the bag.”
Vala took them and set them down on the bed. “Well, that was just
one option. We don’t have to use -“
“Oh, we’re not,” he said adamantly. “And we’re not having a
sleep over party.”
Vala pouted. “Why not?”
Daniel crossed his arms over his chest. “Well, first of all we’re
not thirteen year-old girls. Secondly, we’re not thirteen year-old
girls.”
“But, Daniel,” she whined. “I’ve never had a sleep over party. I
heard it mentioned in a movie and looked it up on the Internet. I
was a bit surprised when I learned it didn’t involve any adult
activities, but I still think it will be fun, even though it doesn’t
involve sex.”
“No,” he said.
“Okay, I didn’t want to bring this up, but I don’t see I have any
other choice.” She sat down on the bed. “Do you want to know what
I was doing when I was thirteen?”
“Not particularly, no,” he replied.
“I was out on the street picking other people’s pockets,” she said.
“My father was gone and I stayed away from the house to avoid
my current stepmother.” She fingered one of the candy bars. “We
hardly had any money which meant I never had any fun. Don’t you
want me to have fun, Daniel?”
Daniel rolled his eyes. “So, I’m supposed to say yes because
you never had a stable parent at home?”
She nodded. “You know I’m not stable.”
“I can’t argue with that one.”
“I see you don’t have a TV, but we can still talk and eat junk
food,” she said. “Oh, and read.” Vala held up two magazines.
“Which do you want, Glamour or Marie Claire?”
Daniel took off his glasses, sighed and rubbed his eyes. “If
you stay, then there has to be some rules.”
“Fine,” she agreed. “What are they?”
“No nudity.”
“All right, but that means you, too.” She winked at him.
“Oh, I think I can control myself,” he said, sliding his glasses
back on. “I’m concerned about you.”
Vala gave an exasperated sigh. “I’m wearing panties.” She lifted
her nightgown up to reveal matching black panties. “See?”
“Well, I feel so much better now,” he said. “I’m going to get
changed.” He headed off to the bathroom.
Vala scrambled off the bed and put the handcuffs back in the
duffel bag. She chose a Snickers bar and a can of Coke from her
stash, put the rest of the stuff back into the bag and set it down
on the floor beside the bed. Picking up the Glamour, she settled
down on the bed to read.
Five minutes later, Daniel emerged from the bathroom wearing
only boxer shorts. Vala lowered her magazine and stared at him,
trying not to drool. “Can we amend this nudity rule?”
“No and you’re on my side of the bed,” he told her.
“Oh, I am? Sorry, darling.” She threw her legs over the side of
the bed and stood up.
He walked over to the bed. “You didn’t see my book on the
nightstand?”
“No, I didn’t,” she admitted and walked around to the other
side of the bed. She sat down on top of the covers with her
magazine and candy.
Daniel got into bed and picked up his book. He began to read.
Vala looked over at him. “I thought we were going to talk and
eat junk food.”
“I already brushed my teeth and I’m tired,” he said.
“Not too tired to read, though?” she said.
“It’s what I usually do before going to bed,” he said, not looking
up from the book.
“No wonder you don’t have a girlfriend,” she muttered.
“What?” he said.
“Nothing,” she said. “I just got excited seeing some new
makeup in this advertisement.” Vala opened the candy bar and
started to chew noisily.
“Do you mind?” he said.
“Sorry,” she said around a mouthful of caramel and nougat. Vala
opened the can of Coke and it fizzed over the top with some of the
liquid spilling over onto the sheets.
“Vala -“
“Sorry.” She set the magazine aside, got up and took the can
into the bathroom, returning with a towel to mop up the spilled
liquid.
“It’s too late now.” Daniel grabbed the towel from her and
blotted the spilled Coke off the sheets as best as he could. “It’s
sugary and sticky.”
“Oops, I forgot about that.” She resumed eating the candy
bar as Daniel cleaned up the mess.
“And you got chocolate on the bed. Vala -“
“Sorry,” she said.
“No more eating.” He handed her back her magazine. “Just read
quietly, okay? Do you think you can do that?” Daniel got out of bed
and took the towel back to the bathroom.
Vala put the empty wrapper on the nightstand beside her and
quietly went back to her reading. Daniel came back and didn’t
even look at her. He took his glasses off and put his book down
on the nightstand. Turning the light off, he rolled over on his
side, facing away from her.
She tried not to get upset and just concentrate on her magazine.
It was hard. She had hoped they would talk and get to know each
other better. Not sit in silence in the same bed. This wasn’t working.
She’d wait until he was asleep and leave his quarters.
Ten minutes later, thinking Daniel was already asleep, Vala
slid out of bed and crept over to the duffel bag that sat on the
floor. Stuffing the magazine back inside, she picked up the bag
and slung it over her shoulder. Still clad in her nightgown, she
headed over to the door.
“Where are you going?” Daniel asked.
Vala froze in her tracks. “Oh, I thought you were asleep,” she
said. “I’m going back to my quarters.”
Daniel sat up and turned on the lamp beside his bed. “Like
that? In your nightgown?”
She turned around to face him. “Well, it’s just across the
hall, so -“
“Where are your clothes?” he asked.
“I took them off after I got here and stuffed them in one of
you dresser drawers,” she replied. “Sorry. I’ll just go and get
them and -“ She headed for the dresser.
Daniel looked at his watch. “It’s late,” he said. “Why don’t
you just stay?”
“Why?” She looked right at him. “You don’t really want me
here. All you’ve done is get upset with me when I wanted to plan
this little evening for us -innocent, I might add -and all you’ve
done is complain,” she explained.
“You broke into my quarters, got undressed and ambushed me,
Vala,” he said. “How am I supposed to react?”
She walked over to the foot of the bed and let the bag slide
from her shoulder onto the bed. “Well, if I asked you, you’d have
said no to my plan, so I had to make it a surprise.” She offered
him a small smile. “Surprise.”
Daniel said nothing and just ran his hands over his face in
exasperation.
“Okay. I get it,” she said. “I’m leaving.”
“No, wait,” he said. “What other candy do you have in there?”
Vala perked right up and hurried over to him with the bag. She sat
down on the edge of the bed next to him and pulled a candy bar
out of the bag, offering it up to him. “Hershey’s Special Dark.”
Daniel took the candy and opened it, breaking off the first three
blocks of chocolate and offering some to her. “Want some?”
“Yes.” Instead of taking it with her hand, she used her mouth
to take the piece from him. She not only got the rich, dark chocolate,
but her lips skimmed over his fingers. “Oops, sorry.” She seemed
to be apologizing a lot tonight, but Daniel didn’t seem upset over
this act.
“Where’s that other magazine you brought?” he asked. “Marie
something?”
“Marie Claire.” She took it out of the bag and handed it to him.
“You don’t have to read it, Daniel -“
“No, I want to.” He got comfortable on the bed with his candy
and borrowed magazine.
Vala smiled at him and set the bag down on the floor before
grabbing some plain M&M’s out of it and her Glamour. She hurried
around to the other side of the bed and resumed her reading.
Well, she snuck glances of him eating the candy and tried to keep
her thoughts PG rated as she watched him lick the chocolate from his
fingers when he was through with the Hershey bar.
Five minutes later, she looked over at Daniel, still reading the
Marie Claire. “Daniel, really. It’s okay. You can go back to your
book. I won’t be offended.”
“Look. Victoria’s Secret has a new bra out.” He turned the magazine
to show her the page.
Vala smiled and then started to laugh. She turned a page in her
magazine and found the same ad. She showed it to him and soon
they were both laughing. When the giggling ended, their moods
had lightened.
“Want some M&M’s?” she asked and scooted over to him.
“Sure.”
She poured some into his hand while resting the magazine on
top of his chest. “Thanks,” he replied.
Vala realized she was over on his side of the bed. “Oh, sorry,
better get back on my side.”
“No, it’s okay,” he told her as he closed the magazine, put
it down on top of his book on the nightstand.
She moved over and rested her head on his chest as she continued
to read her magazine. “Are you going to sleep?” she asked, noticing
he had set the magazine down.
“Just resting my eyes,” he said.
Vala continued to look at the magazine until her eyes got tired.
She set the magazine down on her lap and shut her eyes as well.
A few minutes later, she was fast asleep.
Daniel opened his eyes and noticed that Vala was asleep. He
took the magazine off her lap and set it aside on top of the Marie
Claire. For a second, he thought about moving her, but then
decided it was fine if she slept just a little on his side.
He pushed a strand of hair that had fallen over her eye out
of the way before turning off the bedside lamp without moving
too much so she wouldn’t wake up.
“Sleep over party,” he muttered to himself before closing
his eyes for the night.
