In most of Europe eggs are not refrigerated in supermarkets. They're usually on shelves close to the refrigerated aisle. It is better if eggs are *not* refrigerated *and* we assume you won't be attempting to keep them in a giant oversized refrigerator for a month.
I had no idea. It's like bagged in from Canada: people get thoroughly weirded-out by familiar things presented in unexpected ways, mostly because they can't believe that their method of presentation (or in this case preservation) isn't universal.
