Merry Christmas!

Dec 25, 2011 22:26

This year was a little unusual for us -- usually Christmas morning is hosted at my grandparents' house, but this year everybody came over here. Unfortunately this meant waking up at 6:30 (oh god whyyyy) to help cook breakfast/deal with Mom, who was whirling about the kitchen like a possessed woman trying to find space on the counter for what seemed like eighteen different varieties of fruitcake. There was not enough coffee available in the western hemisphere to deal with that. However, things went smashingly all the same. We ate our oyster stew (as horrifying a breakfast food as it sounds, but part of Tradition, so we all choke down a bowl before presents are opened), set up the train set we've been playing with since we were tiny for Major Destruction (a sort of miniature railroad demolition derby) and watched the classic and critically-acclaimed animated feature Buzz Lightyear of Star Command (during we all agreed that Buzz and Warp Darkmatter were clearly space boyfriends). All was right with the world.

Got some fun presents this year too -- several fuzzy sweaters, a metric ton of very nice tea, and various music and books. I think my favorite gifts were from my cousins, who presented me and my sister with an absolutely massive Fight Club poster that's now hanging over the pool table in the basement, and a DVD of The Room. I'm not sure if I ever want to inflict the latter on anybody else, let alone myself, but I suppose it might be amusing to bring back to school just because. Favorite gifts given? We got my mom a copy of The Who's Tommy because she used to be obsessed with Roger Daltrey back in the day, and she went into full fangirl-freakout mode. It is obvious where I get it from, I'm afraid. In addition to a blues guitar book, we also got my (rapidly balding) dad some clip-in neon hair extensions as a gag gift. We didn't expect him to actually put them in. My family is absurd and I love them.

Anyway, I hope you guys all had a wonderful day. Merry Christmas! I'm thankful to have you around. <3

holiday, family
