Hi there, kids!
Right now I'm kneedeep in production of my graphic novel Quelle Horreur; with the terrible and awesome deadline of End Of August to produce a book of almost 100 pages. Killing? Yes. But it's also showing a new side of me that I had almost forgotten about. The side that, when the going gets tough, pulls out all the stops to get things done. I'm talking about major dedication and motivation. I didn't think I had it in me. So, there's a surprise. I guess when I'm really passionate about something, I am 100% there and going for it. I can be pretty goddamn lazy about most things, but it's nice to know there are a few things that I can sink in like an autist.
That said, there are a couple of elements that help me though this month of development hell. After the cut, a wall of visuals!
David Bowie!
Without superb albums like Diamond Dogs and Heathen, I'd be nowhere, thank you ma'am.
Okay, actually World of Warcraft, though I've played Warcraft 2 a whole bunch as well. Sometimes I just need a little break and World of Warcraft proffers exactly that. I never get as addicted as most players, but I do enjoy occasionally delving into the Tirisfal Glades and Silverpine Forest.
Soil & Pimp Sessions. This lively mix of pumped up modern-day jazz full of brass trumpets and saxophones teetering without stop gets me revved up without fail.
This is cheating, because The Daily Show with Jon Stewart is something I watch all year 'round (on the internets, which is a series of tubes). Without my daily dose of sharp criticism on American politics and world affairs, I just don't sleep well. Colbert I usually watch in tandem with The Daily Show, but despite it being arguably sharper, there's just something about Stewart's goofy smile that makes me love his show so much more. And here it is, your moment of zen.
