In descending order of importance...sort of:
1a. I saw the orthodontist today. He said he anticipates my orthodontic work to be complete in a month and a half. Wow. If that's the case, I won't have to worry about having a super duper industrial strength cleaning for
watchamacallit's wedding in December. Also, I'll be able to eat carrots with hummus again!!!!! And I will no longer have a constant dull ache in my jaw. Sweet. October is such a fabulous month. For my own knowledge more than anything else, I'm going to write about the contraptions I've got on my teeth right now. Both upper and lower now have a power chain (basically a silicon strand of those little rubber bands that go around each bracket, all connected to each other and then attached to the main metal molar anchors). Both upper and lower front teeth have power threads (silicon "wire" tied around several brackets to pull teeth together), upper has one, lower has two. Steel ties also around upper and lower front teeth.
The gap that was between my lower front teeth when I got up this morning is completely gone now. I think it went away while he was pulling with all his might on the power thread while tightening it. I've since taken some ibuprofen.
1b. I went to NYC this past weekend.
- I got to see Lynn and Rob, which was great, as always.
- I saw a Mets/Cubs game. I won't discuss the outcome of the game out of respect for jawalter's feelings.
- I got totally smashed at a tasty beer bar later that night.
- I spent Saturday in NY hungover, but still touristy.
- I met an awesome person named Brooke and want to hang out with her more.
- I ate part of a half of a whole pig and have pictures to prove it. There was sweet tea in a mason jar, too.
- I went to the top of the Empire State Building at midnight. Really cool.
- I finally ate dim sum on Sunday morning. YUM.
- I went to High Line Park--very neat. Can't wait to see it next spring when the wildflowers and plants have filled in all the open space.
- I came home with a bruised right side (don't ask, not telling) and a whopper of a cold/flu on Sunday night. I'm pretty sure now that it was the flu (the regular kind, not the swine version) because it came on so swiftly and has pretty much left just as quickly. All I have now is congestion and a cough. I hope that continues to fade rapidly.
1c. Eric and I are going to Oregon September 19-26. In preparation for this, I checked Yelp to see if people were yelping restaurants in my home town. They are. That's kinda cool. I'm hoping to make this a combined type of vacation: family visiting and vacationy things. I'm hoping to hit up a couple vineyards on Sunday the 20th, if things work in OR like the do in Napa Valley. We shall see!
That's all I can think of for now. Stay tuned for more installments of Super Important Things for September...and NYC pictures! Now I'm gonna go gum my ice cream bar to death and dream of the end of October when I can eat like an adult again.
