It may have been the 23rd century, but it was often terribly clear that the women of Starfleet were operating in a man's world. Women were outnumbered by men, and many of them had at one time or another found themselves on the receiving end of a pat on the shoulder or too-sweet tone of voice that told them that this was men's work, and they were lucky to be included at all. There was, of course, also the issue of regulation skirt length - whoever had thought that one up had certainly been a man.
As the days turned into weeks, Angela noticed that although she was making friends, the ones she knew best were men. So it was decided that the female crew members of the Enterprise needed to have a slumber party. Childish, maybe, but it also promised to be a good night of bonding. After all, every woman could use a good friend or two who had more estrogen than testosterone.
So Angela had sent invitations to all the female senior officers (and a few other lower-ranking officers like herself), inviting them to bring a pillow and blankets and join her for a Girls Only party. She had rounded up some booze and snacks but really didn't think it would get anywhere as wild as things tended to be in mixed company. She had taken some time to appropriately decorate her quarters with streamers and balloons, adding to the ridiculousness of a bunch of adults having a sleepover - but Angela saw no point in doing the party half-heartedly, and the bright pink and purple balloons certainly made things more festive.
