Jim came stumbling in, late but more put-together than he ever had been, so he was hoping that counted for something. Bones had even set their laundry unit to iron his shirt for him. He even had notes. He had, as was expected of any captain, written up a captain's report of the incident, and kept captain's log throughout the entire ordeal.

It was bullshit, he'd vocally brought up more than once, calling it an 'incident'. But the purpose of this meeting was showing the Romulans that they recognized the Narada as an event in the past, and were looking forward to moving forward - Jim had read all the materials Starfleet had commed him. Contrary to public belief, Jim loved this part of his job. Loved interacting with people, loved getting the chance to talk circles around everyone in the room and show them all just why he deserved the title he had.

"Sorry I'm late," he excused himself, sliding into his seat at the head of the conference table. "Fucking replicator can't make me a decent cup of coffee no matter what I do to reprogram the thing. Commander. Admiral. We ready to start this thing?" There was a smile stuck on Jim's face wide enough to see easily through any comm screen, genuine as the feleleet could possibly ask for.

Spock nodded in greeting to both of them as they entered. Having all of the commanding officer’s coordinated on just how this whole thing would go made him worry less about the possibility of another ‘incident’. While neither he nor the Captain had much experience in this area, utilizing the Admiral’s knowledge would be greatly beneficial. Now they just needed to come up with a strategy.

He always considered even the simplest diplomatic exchanges an area that needed the same strategy as a well-executed battle. Particularly where military leaders interacting shortly after their ties were once very tense.

“Certainly, Captain, Admiral,” Spock accessed the console near him at the briefing table to bring up the information on the view screen for all of them to see. “The Romulan ship Decius should be arriving at the Starbase in approximately 3 hours 24 minutes based on their last coordinates relayed to Communications. Their Commander, Dion, and a select entourage from her crew agreed to a short meeting and tour here on the Enterprise.”

Her crew? At least she wasn't Orion.

"That shouldn't be a problem as long as we make sure to keep an eye on whatever entourage she decides to bring with her", Pike said, he hoped for no reason. The Flagship was top of the line Federation Technology and allowing Romulans to roam free aboard would be a bad idea.

"Her?" Jim clarified, an eyebrow raised in a motion that would make even Spock and Bones proud. He hadn't learned of Romulans ever putting women in command of their ships. "A Romulan woman, captaining one of their major ships. She'll be...driven, more intelligent than most Romulans, quick and harsh because she's used to being stepped on and overlooked." He looked quickly over at Spock to ensure that he was characterizing the Romulan race accurately enough. "Quick to be defensive and protective of her leading role in what we're doing. Probably won't be a huge fan of mine, but we can change that." Jim believed it, too.

"We can work with her. I'll send out a memo to the crew, sir, I don't want a single person on this ship even looking at her with anything but respect. Everyone could use a reminder that they've got nothing to do with Narada."

“Yes, she is one of very few Romulan females with their own fleet ship, however I am curious as to whether or not this particular ship is the flagship of the Armada.” He actually was uncertain from the data that intelligence had gathered. This was something they should know, and it just made this whole situation increasingly suspicious.

“Your assessment is extremely generalized, though accurate. I believe a transmission would be the best way to open communication.” He sits back in his chair, staring intently down at the table. “Captain, Admiral, I believe it would be wise for use to consider putting the crew on alert for the possibility of action and, as the Admiral stated, keep a close watch on her entourage. Between the conference and this meeting we cannot afford to not be ready for any possibility.”
