It had only been a day or less since the idea had been placed in Tonia's mind to cook for some of the crew and officers. Most of the Castille family were the sort that loved to throw parties even taking hurricane season as a reason to have a pig roast. There was no limit to how much the love of cooking had found its way in to the young Barrows girl even after she had been transplanted to Montana. Which is probably the reason she spent the majority of her off day in the Enterprise's kitchen for enlisted members singing along to Cajun songs spoke in French and not. It made it feel more like home as the wafting smells of spicy foods hand prepared filtered into the halls and the mess in general. People were going to be surprised when they realized it wasn't the usual assortment of cooks doing the dirty deed.
Her roommates had helped set everything up once they were closer to the approved time for the mess to become 'closed' for a few hours. A few of the tables had been moved away giving a little 'dance floor' and the mic set up once again but this time with a band. Turns out some others on the ship knew the songs she had requested for the evening and were more than willing to play them. It was going to be as fun an evening as she could possibly make it. Candles lit from within mason jars placed upon the tabletops and around the buffet style tables they had set up, the lights low giving an almost evening feel to the room. If they weren't going to be able to go to Louisiana, she was going to bring it as best she could to them!
The tables with the food were slightly overflowing- Tonia was expecting to feed as many people as wanted to come by (not to mention program the items they liked into the replicators in the kitchen) with a wide range of items she had grown up on. Each even had their own little cards saying what was in them for people with allergies like the Captain. There was
Gumbo z'herbes and
maque choux for those who didn't eat meat and a variety of fruits and veggies. But, the main dishes, they were the ones that were eye catching. There was
tasso,
dirty rice,
boiled crawfish, chicken and sausage
jambalaya, three kinds of
gumbo, and
andouille sausage. Not to mention the deserts at the end ranging from tarte à la bouillie to crêpes. And yes there might have been some caïman and grenouille mixed in there but Tonia wasn't going to tell unless someone asked what the words meant. That was the fun in trying new things. The Yeoman even went as far to have traditional drinks set up as well. Even if she was tired as heck she was still in quite the bubbly mood.
When it was time she coded the door to stay open allowing the smells to waft out in to the hall. All the Yeoman could do was smile. "Bon Appetite, mon chers!"
