Sooo
having a little confusion.
Why did I decide not to be an English major?
I think I figured I'd need a job after graduation.
Except now I really miss the writing and the reading.
And I wish I had 8 hours a day so I can write
poetry and write short stories
and read so I can see what works.
I had forgotten how beautiful language can be,
the joy of fitting the right word into meter and rhyme.
Excitement when you find the origin
of a word you took for granted.
Maybe I don't want to do research.
Maybe I want to paint with words
and listen to my imagination
for a change.
Also I like line breaks. Clearly.
Also I'm a pretty bad poet, Here's an example:
An Ode to Starbucks' London Fog Latte
Smoky and spicy,
it fills my nose then my mouth,
and goes down all too soon.
I should have asked for the largest cup.
It's sweet and milky,
I lick the lip of the cup
to savor every drop
like a lover,
close my eyes to savor every sip
Crash!
Right into the car in front of me.
