I think I would have enjoyed this even more watching at the time it came out. I know a lot of stuff about this - who was a Cylon, etc. - before I started watching, so some of the Shocking Reveals weren't that shocking to me. I do have some nits to pick with some of the episodes (which the TWOP recapper usually hits on) but all in all, I enjoyed this season. We plan to watch more.
The Great Mouse Detective (1986)
I remember loving this as a child - I was about 10 when it came out in theatres - but had only seen it the once, long ago and far away. It wasn't terrible all these years later. A lot more of the in-jokes about Sherlock Holmes that I didn't get then, I get now. The evil rat was played by Vincent Price, who was delightful.
Lonesome Dove (TV mini-series) (1989)
This was great, really true to the book, and totally accessible if you haven't read the book. Robert Duvall is fantastic, and Tommy Lee Jones has so few lines that you wonder what there is to do with this character, but in the last 'episode' he really brings it and is amazing. All of the acting is great - DB Sweeney, Rick Schroeder, Diane Lane, Robert Urich, Danny Glover, etc. The only one I was unsure of was Angelica Huston - there was nothing wrong with her performance, and usually I like her a lot, but something about her voice just didn't work for me as Clara. Recommended, with the caveat that it's not really uplifting, bad shit happens to pretty much everyone at some point, and it's really long (4 1.5-hour episodes). But it's GREAT.
