Oh what is this? Oh this is a knitting post.
Since I hurt my wrist over the summer knitting, I haven't been as diligent with updating my knitting, but since I pulled out a pair of socks during the Olympics, it is okay to catch up.
I've finished a few things since the sweater.
Oh wait, this isn't knitting. This is CROCHET.
Rainbow Star [Ravelry link]
Pattern: Chromium Star Blanket by Laura Lynn Hanks
Materials: Elann Sonata in Victorian Grape, Tapestry Blue, Tarragon, Chamois, Burnished Apricot, and Burgundy Rose
Hook: US G / 4.5 mm
Amount: from 1 to 3 skeins of each color
Knit for: "Valentine"
Comments: Stars get me every time. I wanted to make a cute blanket for Valentine and what better than a big rainbow star? I learned a lot on this and got more comfortable with crochet. This could not have been started without guidance from metachaos since crochet patterns are incomprehensible to me.

Materials: Handmaiden 8-ply Cashmere and Handmaiden Rumple
Needles: US 10 / 6 mm straights
Amount: one skein of each
Knit for: me and then gifted
Comments: The Wavy Scarf is from a kit I picked up when I visited Toronto last. It uses a cashmere yarn and a silk boucl&eacut; yarn in a drop-stitch wave pattern that was quite enjoyable to knit and not too mentally taxing. I really liked it and the colors, but ended up giving it to iii_demon's mom for a Christmas present.

Materials: Noro Kureyon (156) and Noro Silk Garden (234)
Needles: US 7 / 4.5 mm straights
Amount: two skeins of each
Knit for: mom
Comments: These scarves are addictive and are great things to be working on when traveling. I took this one with me on a few trips (Grand Summer Trek East, Yarn School, Grand Winter Trek East). Holly and I found the yarn when the big Pink House in West Des Moines closed, and thought that even though they were two different yarns, it would be interesting to see how the colorways worked together, which I think is the reason so many of these scarves get started. Anyway, it became a Christmas gift for mom, which I think she enjoys.

Materials: Patons Astra in Black, Medium Grey and Silver Grey Mix
Needles: US 4 / 3.5 mm straights
Amount: one skein of each
Knit for: swandog
Comments: Swandog presented me with this request and I thought it was rather intriguing. Certainly not a straight-forward and easy knit, but was enjoyable to do.
Also, they are convertable!

Pattern: Ballband Dishcloth Reusable Swiffer Cover by Noelle
Materials: Lily Sugar'n Cream Super Size in Hot Green, Key Lime Pie, and Summer Splash
Needles: US 7 / 4.5 mm straights
Amount: one skein of each
Knit for: the house
Comments: I have a Swiffer (that I don't use often enough) that I hate buying clothes for, so I knit these up. My Swiffer is a bit larger than the regular one, so I did a few more repeats of the pattern so they would fit. As I have obviously not used the Swiffer enough, I don't know how effective they are. I should probably remedy that soon.

Materials: Valley Yarns Amherst in Black
Needles: US 5 / 3.75 mm circulars
Amount: 16 skeins alloted
Knit for: me
Comments: I have longed to knit this sweater since I first saw it. Oh, those cables on the sleeves! How intricate and bold. I've finally worked through my queue and started it this fall. Since it is better to use small pieces as swatches, I started with the left front (which is since completed and I'm almost done with the back, but haven't photographed it yet). This also has the advantage of saving those yummy sleeves for the latter portion of the project. I intend on modifying it to remove the hood since I think this would be an excellent sweater to wear to work if need be. I've lengthened the body about two inches as well, so I hope that by not knitting the hood, I have enough yarn. I'll probably finish this up in time to not need it until the fall. I'm good like that.
Fractal Striping Socks [Ravelry link]

Materials: my Nebula yarn
Needles: US 00 / 1.75 mm circulars
Amount: 1 skein
Knit for: me
Comments: unmutual and I agreed to knit socks out of our handspun, since we had been spinning for a while, but never using the fruits of our effort. Thus, these socks from this yarn. I spun this stuff ridiculously fine, so they are taking a while to knit. I am loving the colors, but if I were to make fractal stripe yarn again, I would go with a simpler dying pattern. I can't really see the fractal nature of these, so I'll just have to try again. I'm looking forward to having them done so I can see how well they wear!
Next up I'll hopefully post about some of the yarn I've finished.
