I got such a good laugh today during one of my classes. As did my students and one of the security guards.
My phone is broken right now, so if the office wants to get hold of me, they send one of the security guards over to my room. So while I was teaching my last class of the day, one of the security guards showed up...
"Ms. G, I have a message for you from the office, because your phone isn't working. You need to call about your daughter."
"...my... daughter?"
"This is from the office. I'm really not making it up."
"I don't have a daughter, though! And I'm only 23!"
at this point, the kids are looking at me in utter confusion. and trying very hard not to burst out laughing.
"I'm just passing on the message. She at her school's nurse's office"
"School?! I definitely don't have a school-age daughter!"
at this point, i'm laughing, as are the kids. and the security guard is starting to laugh as well
"Well, let me check with the secretary. Maybe she gave me the wrong name."
the security guard goes out into the hall and gets in touch with the secretary, then comes back in, laughing
"Yes, she definitely said it was you. Your daughter is over at the middle school."
"I'm only 23! I certainly don't have a daughter in middle school!"
by now everybody is cracking up. the security guard is rather entertained by his task, my kids are doing the math in their heads and coming up with comments like "That's not even possible!", and i can't help laughing at how bizarre the entire situation is.
"I'm really not making this up, you know. Although I'm not sure how it could be true. Let me check one more time."
and now the security guard checks one more time. from the hall, i can hear "Well, maybe it was Ms. (insert different but similar-sounding last name here). the security guide looks at me.
"Yes, I really do think there's some confusion here. You've got the wrong teacher."
"Definitely."
the secretary can hear us all laughing while talking to the security guard, and as the security guard heads off to go find the right teacher, i hear "Are you all laughing at me?"
So after that, there were a few jokes about my daughter. Fortunately, this was one of the good classes, so they won't be a pain in the ass about it. Also, it really was absolutely hilarious.
And for more randomness... after school, I was getting ready to head home. Two of my students from different classes came in and brought along a friend of theirs. They said hello, offered me skittles, drew circles on the board, and left. It was definitely weird.
