I skipped a couple of classes this weekend and traveled up to Washington, D.C. for a pair of shows.
Jimmy Eat World @ Sonar. Baltimore, MD.
Sunday night was the fourth time I've seen them. They've fallen into (and out of) the spotlight since I last saw them (circa 1999-2001), and the magic of their music may have dimmed -- but I can still feel the butterflies. They played quite a few songs off Clarity, plus a couple of B-sides, songs of the Jebediah split and their EPs. Most importantly, they still play with the same energy they always did, although now half their audience is oblivious to anything but radio singles. It's a bit of a shame. Is it to much to ask that a girl know the words to For Me This Is Heaven? Probably yes. That's why I don't require it. But I still think it's seductive as hell if they do.
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band @ Verizon Center. Washington, DC.
I always wanted to see the Boss, and now I have. He played a lot of songs off the new CD, but also a good mix of material from 1973-1975, which were his best years. It's too bad I wasn't alive then. I missed out on a lot of great music.
