Christmas!

All in all, I would say that this was a good Christmas. It started early in the morning when my sisters and I assailed my mom with a "Merry Christmas!" when she walked in the front door after coming home from working last night. Then we all sat in the living room and opened presents and such (I was the Santa). It was good...I didn't get a lot of things, but I liked it that way. I didn't need much. One of my favorite gifts is probably a t-shirt that has a picture of the Sneetches from the Dr. Suess book on it (and the book to go along with it). Classics, those books are...and they're just as good to read as an adult as they were as a kid, b/c you pick up on the hidden meanings and lessons that you missed before.

Last night my dad and I made the pies for Christmas dinner today, since my mom was working. It was fun. I've found that I've gotten closer to my dad as I've gotten older, b/c I realize that we have a lot in common...a lot more than I have in common with my mom. And I ate a piece of my Dutch apple pie (which I made myself) today, and I must admit that I made some darn good pie. There was none left by the end of the day.

It was great celebrating Christmas with my mom's side of the family. We had a lot of fun at the "kid's" table. It's called the kid's table even though only one of us is under the age of 18, simply b/c we're the youngest generation there. It's amazing how old we all are now. Erik is closing in on 30. But it was a good bit of fun, and I had lots of good conversations with lots of my family members and lots and lots of good food. It's great that, even though we're getting older and spreading out different directions, we can all manage to come back together for Christmas, and that's what makes it so great. I love the Christmas holiday, at least the way my family celebrates it, away from the stress and bustle and materialism that have taken over most of it. Things change, but the important things always stay the same in some way or another.

Merry Christmas everyone!
