Falling

It's not true what they say. There is nothing from your past.

No childhood memories of forgotten playgrounds, no fleeting visions of loved ones lost, not even a glimpse of the life you so desperately wanted to leave behind.

Maybe it's that, maybe it's because it was never what you wanted. It didn't save you then, it never even came close, you only sought to escape its mundanity. Always dreaming, always wishing, always hungry for something more. Why would it save you now?

Dreams and unrealised adventure. They've been your saviour since as far back as you can remember. Your escape. Fantasies that for so long seemed so impossible, daydreams of folly that others laughed at. But you knew, you never let go, cherished and filling your heart with their breathtaking wonder.

And then they finally came - within touching distance - palpable even, you felt them, smelt them, kissed them, so very nearly lived them. They were more than you'd ever hoped.

As you fall, you cling to them, hoping now that their unforgettable energy will let you fly. His promises, he offered everything you'd ever needed. One moment passed and your future spread before you like unfurling petals starved of the suns for too long. You can't get that close yet never see it.

He's brilliant. He'll find a way. He can show you everything. He's a Time King.

The more you hope, the more you imagine - the further away he becomes. You can't reach him now, but you never stop believing that he can reach you.

It's imagined visions of a future that flash through your mind, not the past. There's nothing in the past, but everything is in the future.

Everything.
