About a month ago I had a 25% off coupon to Borders, and seeing that was the last day the coupon was good, Pam and I went to the store to pick up a book that I wanted. Unfortunately, the store did not have the book, so after some talking, some store clerk helped us order a copy and supposedly they'll contact me when the store comes in. Then I asked the guy, hey, can I pay now so I can use this coupon. The guy said no, you can't do that. So I said well fine cancel the order and I'll just order the book on Borders.com. The guy said he couldn't cancel the order but when the store contacts me, I can just say hey I don't need it any more. Sounded good.
I came home and ordered me a copy of that book, with coupon and all, got the free shipping by shipping the book to the store instead of my house.
Fast forward a month, haven't heard a thing from Borders.com or Borders, so I decided to go and ask. Turns out, Borders.com is a separate entity from Borders... so the folks at Borders store have no way of checking about the order. By talking to the store manager, she told me that the warehouse have their address wrong so NO order from Borders.com has been getting here, but they have been good about refunding, so she urged me to call Borders.com. Mean while, I said hey can you check to see if the book got here under my name, and she checked and sure enough there was a book under my name. Looking further I noticed it was the copy I ordered in store. I said well, since I paid for a copy already, can I just have this copy? They said no... okay... but it's the same book, I ordered it... and the book I ordered online should get here eventually, so one book for another, what's the big deal? That didn't fly.
Came home and called Borders.com Customer Service... they guy check the system and said that book was shipped on June 9th, and seeing it's been a month, most likely it has been lost, so he can get me a refund. But since I bought it with a gift card, and the shipping address is the Borders Bookstore, they will have to send the giftcard to the bookstore.
But wait I said, since you guys can't get ANY shipment to the Bookstore, what makes you think you can send a giftcard there? The guy said well sorry there's nothing I can do about it. I asked how about shipping me another copy of the book? I don't want refund.... The guy said sorry, we can't do that.
@#$#%#$....
Oh, and he is only going to refund me the price I paid... so if I walk into the Borders Store to get it, I won't have a coupon to use it.... so it'll cost me more to buy that book.
What a mess!
