It is always nice to ask an author or artist or vid-maker for permission to use their work for your own project, whether you are writing an expansion piece to someone else's story or creating a cookie representation of someone else's artwork or recording someone else's piece as an audiobook. This is not plagiarism by any sense of the word for it is

Blanket permission is so awesome! I can't tell you the number of times I've just wanted to record something on a whim, and those times I always think of the authors who I know have blanket permission and look for a story that suits my mood at the time. Much much quicker than the back and forth email :)
