Day 6: Collaboration
Podfic doesn't have to be a solitary fanwork. It can be fun to collaborate with others create multi-voiced project, to work with an author on the story, to add visual or extra audio to a podfic. Collaboration can be a wonderful thing! Not only does it allow for more creative input and greater variance in styles and voices, but it helps build community and makes new friendships. I have been blessed to come to know fire_juggler and ashiiblack through beta experiences; paraka, teas_me, and others through the podfic comms; and andeincascade through the awesome pod_together challenge. Working with an author or artist feels more rewarding, too, knowing that you are each producing brand-new pieces of fanworks. And truly, anything that can bring more creativity into the world is a good thing!
There is no end to the transformative works possible in any media, and combining them just grows our enjoyment of fandom exponentially. You take a piece of art, which is lovely in itself, and a fic, which is also lovely, and record the fic, add in music, use the art as cover art and whala! you have a complete package that others can place on their computer or iPod or iPhone or tablet or smartphone and enjoy over and over and over again! And if you get with the author or artist ahead of time, it can be something new to enjoy forever. And if you put a vidder in this list, you could have the whole thing animated as well! How cool is that?
That's not to mention what you could do with several podficcers together. With them you can have different narrative styles, different voices, more action and emotions, combined talents for editing, and enormous amounts of fun. I haven't quite had the chance to do this yet, but I want to very badly. There was a new comm Theatripod that was going to be running like a radio play or recorded stage production, but I'm not sure how they are fairing. Anyway, if anyone wants to record with me, just leave a comment here. I would love to get together!
