1. serenade
She couldn’t imagine a better lullaby than the sound of their breath and the way the sheets rustled as they both pressed closer to firmly surround her with their bodies -- even in sleep, she would not be left unprotected.

2. dreams and nightmares
Before, Naoya hadn’t been able to distinguish his nightmares from reality; but now, the complete opposite was true, waking up in a bed that was completely full and warm instead of cold and empty.

3. time
“D’you we think we all knew each other in lives before this?” Mana asked them once, sleep lacing her voice as she nestled into them both, and neither Kaname or Naoya cared, not when they had now.

4. you, me and the car crash
Naoya had been the first to thrust her into this brand new world, and Kaname had been the one who instantly stood up to defend her from it - consequently, they had become her world in and of themselves, and if they crashed they would burn together.

5. restlessness
Naoya had always trouble sleeping, plagued by constant nightmares (sister trapped sister broken soon you’ll be broken too), but then there was Mana soft and soothing against his chest, and Kaname strong and reassuring against his back, and for the first time he was lulled.

6. things you need to know
He’d told her about the bloodshed, he’d told her about the dangers, and all she’d cared about was protecting Kaname and making sure that Naoya himself didn’t die…and Naoya found that he didn’t need to know any more than that, either.

7. golden
She glowed with an almost-golden sheen, and Naoya took great pride in knowing that he and his best friend had made her look this way.

8. wilderness
Kaname suspected that, under normal circumstances, he would have resented being ‘tamed’ (and his best friend would resent it even more), but with Mana doing the taming, it didn’t seem to matter much at all.

9. masquerade
Naoya smiled far too much to hide his feelings, and Kaname simply brooded, but Mana was the first to make them realise that it’s okay to feel.

10. space
Mana was blushing too hard to speak, and Kaname was fairing no better, but her patting of the sheets made the invitation clear -- This bed always has space for you.

11. a careful deception
Naoya had lied by omission to Kaname, Kaname and Mana had lied to themselves, and the biggest mark of their relationship was the fact that now they could all be honest.

12. genius
“Better finish your homework, Itsuki,” Kaname chided him mock-sternly, “because I really don’t think Nakaura-sensei would appreciate ‘Neither of my lovers would let me copy!’ as an excuse.”

13. oracle
“I don’t wanna know what the future will bring,” Naoya whispered, watching them sleep with one hand curled in Kaname’s and the other in Mana’s hair, “because it couldn't be any better than this."

14. the snows of winter
“It’s so much warmer like this,” Mana mumbled softly, huddled into the two pairs of arms surrounding and protecting her from the cold, and she took the quick kisses to her hair as a sign that they agreed.

15. strays
“I’m just the stray dog,” Naoya said with a too-cheerful lopsided grin, “but don’t expect me to sleep at the foot of the bed.”

16. long-distance
“You’re the one that led me back to him, after all those years,” Mana said firmly, looking up into Naoya’s eyes, “and I will always love you for that.”

17. definite borders
They were no borders now, roles didn’t matter, factions didn’t matter, outside opinions did not matter; how could they, when they couldn’t so much as tell their skin apart?

18. blood
“Blood’s never bothered me, it was just a fact of life that I grew up with,” Naoya muttered, shuddering against Kaname’s side, “but I could never stand to see you or Mana that way.”

19. sparks
The fireworks were lovely, Mana mused, but they could never compare to the brightness of the boys at her sides.

20. hearsay
Tomonori noticed more than anyone gave him credit for - and everyone was stunned at how quickly he would assign detentions to anyone gossiping about his mindbreaker and her boys.

21. runaways
Naoya itched to just grab them both and go, haul his master and his best friend (his lovers) to somewhere where they could all be normal and safe, but ultimately he knew that sometimes duty came even before love.

22. apology
Mana understood that guilt was part of what kept Naoya there, as if he thought that lingering in their bed would erase the guilt he felt at dragging them into this world, as if each touch ghosting over their skin served as an apology for every wound that world inflicted.

23. chains
Mana’s own guilt rose like bile in her throat as well - would they have chosen to stay on their own, or had she only bound them to her through an unconscious mindbreaking?

24. ashes
“Stop worrying; it’s not like we’re ever going to leave you,” Naoya told her jauntily, gently wiping away a stray tear, “because even if we died we’d still come back from the ashes to protect you.”

25. the prince
I’m certainly no princess, Mana thought ruefully as she tripped down the stairs for the third time that week, so how on earth did I ever end up with both a prince and a knight?

26. decoder ring
Mana was utterly lost inside this new world (this age, Itsuki had said), but then, she didn’t need to understand it when she perfectly understood the boys who were her guides.

27. revenge
Kaname’s aura was vanishing, but even through the wild desperation Mana understood that she was not alone, seeing Naoya there at their side and grieving just as fiercely - and so his revenge was not an option, not when more bloodshed could separate them all for good.

28. the guiding hand
“I couldn’t have fought him,” Mana whispered into Naoya’s chest as his hand found its way to her hair, “even if it wasn’t really my Kaname-kun…but I felt you outside, fighting for me, and that was the only thing that gave me strength.”

29. sensitivity
“In some ways, I think it’s better for Kirihara to have two people here to love and protect her like this,” Naoya told Kaname quietly, “but at the same time this makes it worse - she’s too sensitive to handle the loss of a lover, and now the chances of that happening are doubled.”

30. chinese whispers
Naoya’s natural inclination for mischief led him to never stop any of the rumours about them he heard; to Mana and Kaname’s chagrin, he found it much more amusing to watch them escalate to nonsensical heights.

31. fading twilight
She used to have a terrible fear of the dark, always feeling a rising sense of panic as twilight faded into black, but now Kaname and Naoya never let her have the time to worry.

32. show and tell
For boys so young, they each had an impressive array of scars, but Naoya had simply brushed aside Mana’s concern with a wave of his hand - “It just goes to show how tough we are, Kirihara; it’s obvious that we’re never gonna let you down.”

33. whoops!
Naoya hadn’t meant to walk in on them like…like that, and Mana certainly hadn’t meant to ask him to stay, but now none of the three could exactly complain.

34. phoenix
Mana watched as Naoya greeted Kaname with a punch to the face, and her heart warmed as she understood its implications -- You’d better always come back to me, you bastard.

35. human remedy
Both boys showered obsessively, as if trying to wash away the memories of blood, but neither really relaxed until it was Mana’s hands that were sluicing over their bare skin.

36. the first
Kaname being Mana’s first had seemed such a logical progression of events that neither had questioned it, but once Naoya entered the equation, no one could decide who should be his.

37. abroad
“We’ll take you abroad someday,” Kaname whispered into Mana’s hair, “someplace where we can all forget about the war for a little bit and just be…just be ourselves.”

38. ring
She didn’t need a “conventional” relationship, or normal declarations of love - she had their arms tangled around her and holding on like they’d never let go, and that was more than enough.

39. the ends of the earth
Neither boy could quite articulate the words, “I love you,” but their unspoken implication of I will follow you to the ends of the earth and beyond really said it all.

40. belief unwavering
Kaname and Naoya had both been skeptical at first, but Mana’s belief in them was as unwavering as her desire for peace, and they soon found themselves swayed.

41. hatred
“If I ever hated anyone,” Mana whispered one night into the dark, “I would hate the people who hurt you, who tried to take you away from me.”

42. fragile
“At first I’d’ve thought attachment like this would just make us weaker,” Naoya observed, leaning back into Kaname’s chest while holding Mana’s hands in his, “but now I think we’re a hell of a lot stronger than we ever would be apart.”

43. lonely
“We’re not awkward because we don’t want you, Kirihara -- God, far from it,” Naoya had tried to explain once, scratching at the back of his head, “but we’re too used to being lonely, and this is all a little much.”

44. sunshine
Mana would never say whether she preferred the sunshine or the nighttime now - one reminded her of Naoya, and the other of Kaname.

45. foolish
“I don’t care how unconventional this is; I’ve certainly done more foolish things,” Naoya said, offhandedly pressing a kiss to Mana’s neck before looking back up with a wicked smirk, “but I don’t think I’ve ever done anything quite as dumb as you before, Kaname.”

46. dancing
They moved like they were dancing, their fighting instincts softened to curl around her with instinctive choreography, and she shone in the middle of their bed like a princess on a ballroom floor.

47. star counting
They would all snuggle together, and Naoya would ask random questions to stave off sleep - and whenever she was asked how many stars she could see out the window, Mana would unfailingly answer with, “Two.”

48. sand dune
This new path they were walking was a slippery slope, heated and dangerous and liable to collapse at any moment; but secretly, none of them were afraid of being burnt.

49. bones
I’d always accepted the fact one day I would be killed - just a pile of blood and bones left alone on the street - but now I realise I have to live, because I could never let them see me that way.

50. a curious incident
It was bizarre, it made no sense - how could so much bloodshed and death have brought her such safety and love?
