Today is National Coming Out Day. I'm here in the deep south, where anti-GLBTQA+ sentiments are some of the worst in the nation. Today, I know that few others on campus will even think about it.

Today I wear wear a rainbow bracelet, a headband, a pin, for those who are too afraid to do so for themselves. Today I wear all purple, for every slur that's been said, every word whispered behind someone's back, for every punch that's been thrown. Today I will keep the rainbow of lights in my room lit, for every person in the darkness.

Today I hold my head high, and say without words, "You are not alone."

homophobes, glbtqa shenanigans, college, optimism
