EDIT: I just realized those crazy people at DH are having yet -another- sale. First 888 people who sign up get 80% off their first year of hosting. Click that link in the next sentence for more details!
So, prompted by
DreamHost reducing their prices for domain registration, I decided to transfer all four domains I had registered with Dotster over. Dotster was still charging me $14.95/year on all four (though I had yet to pay for two of them as they were free handouts last year), and the cheaper price, plus the option to pay for them with referral funds, made a switch make too much sense to not do.
I just recently checked the email that my WHOIS info points to, and I got this rather amusing email from Dotster:
Dear Dotster Customer,
We noticed you elected to transfer the following domains to New Dream Network, LLC. If this is a mistake you can reject the transfer request by clicking on 'reject transfer'.If you are unhappy with Dotster's service please let us know your feelings. We'd like a second chance to get you to stay. If this is not a mistake and you are unhappy withDotster's prices or services please let us know your feelings. We'd like a second chance to get you to stay. However, if you decide to transfer your domain(s) you can disregard this message and the transfer will proceed.
We'd like to encourage you to stay by offering you reduced account pricing. If you choose to take advantage of this offer and cancel your transfer, we will permanently reduce your registration, renewal, and transfer pricing. Your new pricing will include $8.95 registrations and renewals along with $7.75 transfer pricing. We DO NOT charge an ICANN fee, as most other registrars do. The new pricing applies to the following TLD's - .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, and .us. Just click on the link below to take advantage of this offer and cancel your transfer. The new pricing will apply to all future registrations and renewals as well, and is effective immediately.
So, domain owners, if you want cheaper pricing, you may want to try having your domains transferred somewhere, so that your current registrars will lower your rates.
