Hello film fans,
I have somehow been put in charge of coming up with suggestions for the next film series at the Rubin Museum where I currently kinda work. Here's the thing, I know nothing about films, I don't even really watch movies that much. SO I'm enlisting the help of all of you! What's your favorite film(s) that fit the following prompt:
The theme is something about going through surfaces to learn more about yourself. Surfaces = mirrors or paintings or whatever.
Think Pan's Labyrinth, but not quite so new and mainstream. I suggested MirrorMask. Alice in Wonderland, Sunset Boulevard, The Picture of Dorian Grey, Back to the Future, La Chute de la Maison Usher, Rebecca, Bergman's The Magic Flute, are all already on the list.
Obviously it doesn't need to be really academic or "film"-y (see Back to the Future, above) but we're trying to stay away from anything too recent, popular, or "midnight film" types. We're trying to be fun and original.
Bonus points if you can come up with Asian flims that fit this.
Extra, super bonus points if they're also about Bhutan.
And if you know vaguely famous people currently living in New York who might be willing to come give a short introduction to one of these films and talk about it a little, well then I'll take you out for ice cream. (Or something warmer?)
