"Making Believe"

setting: between LDYB II and the incident that tears Lee and Kara apart.

pairng(?): Lee/Kara (kind of) Kara/Sam, Lee/Dee

genre: angst,i guess.

"Making Believe"- Social Distortion

He walks into the officer's quarters and sees Kara, kissing a man he can only assume is the resistance leader from Caprica. He shakes the man's hand when he stands and introduces himself. After a brief, uncomfortable shot and some of Kara's smart ass remarks,he leaves. Before he goes, he looks back. He should feel happy for her. He told her he would be. But,he's not. He feels sick. He shuts the hatch as Kara and Sam begin to kiss and walks down the corridor.

'Making believe
That you still love me
It's leaving me
Alone and so blue

She takes another swig of ambrosia and laughs as Hot Dog continues to make a fool of himself in the rec room by dancing seductively,he thinks,on the table. She feels warm lips on her cheek and turns to see Sam smiling at her. He says something to her and she looks around to see Lee and Dualla walk into the rec room, arm in arm. The smile leaves her face. She takes a shot of the Chief's rot gut and kisses Sam hard, forcefully. Why should she care who Lee's with? She has the man she loves right next to her.

I'll always dream
But I'll never own you
Making believe
Is all I can do

He lays in bed,Dee's head on his chest. She is breathing peacefully, evenly in a deep and contented sleep. Sleep doesn't come to him tonight,so he stares at the ceiling of his quarters and wonders what's wrong with him? He keeps replaying Kara and Sam kissing and fawning over each other like horny teenagers, and once again it makes him sick. Dee stirs and he closes his eyes and pretends to be asleep.

I can't hold you close
Darling when you're not with me
You're somebody's Love
You'll never be mine

She rests her head on Sam's chest and sighs. He's long been asleep, but she isn't able to fall into blissful darkness. She stares at the wall, remembering watching Lee and Dualla dancing and feeling sick. Angry even. But,why should she care? She loves Sam. Still the image of Lee and Dee holding each other and smiling and kissing makes her stomach flutter. She gets out of bed and sits at the table, swigging more ambrosia and telling herself she doesn't care. She has Sam.

Making believe
I'll spend my lifetime
Loving you
And making believe

Lee Adama watches the ceremony, pretending to be happy. He has even convinced himself, somewhat, that he is happy. But as the priest concludes the ceremony and the bride and groom walk back up the aisle and head to the reception, part of him knows he's not happy. Far from it. His stomach knots and his knees feel rubbery. Dee asks him if he's ok and he says yes. He smiles and kisses her and walks with her to the reception, with a twist in his stomach that won't go away.

Making believe
I'll spend my lifetime
Loving you
And making believe

Kara watches as the newly weds kiss each other deeply and turn to walk back up the aisle. There is a flash of anger and sadness as she watches Lee escort his new bride to the reception. It wasn't long ago when she would catch him looking that way at her,it seems. But she can't be jealous. That'd be ridiculous. Wrong even. She's married to Sam, and more importantly, she loves him. Why should she be anything but happy for her best friend on his wedding day?

Just loving you
And making believe

In their own seperate quarters Lee and Kara think of each other and wonder why it bothers them about the other. Lee loves Dualla. Kara loves Sam. So why do their stomachs twist and knot and flutter when they see each other?

Making believe
That you still love me
It's leaving me
Alone and so blue

-FIN.
