OMFG! Jared!

Even if the show is a soap, Jared is everything but a soap actor. He blew it out of the water, again and the material he's given, most be some of the hardest things to act, ever!

Jared, my hat is off for you, big time. The way you have kept Sam consistent during this season, even whilst being in the background astounds me. I called your depression early on as I did your self-loathe. Well in 4.21 you were finally allowed to be front and center, except the few close-ups of the pretty boys that are mandatory in ton this show. luckily they have two pretty boy so they can alternate a little now! And boy, did you take what they gave you and made pure art of it. The EDGs are probably breaking themselves in two to bad-mouth Sam and Jared's acting by now, they always do when Jared is allowed to whip out performances like this one.

Every scene was held perfectly in check emotions-wise, he never, ever stepped over the line and went OTT (Yellow Fever anyone?) *shudders* and with that material? Masterful. Jared has been given very hard things to act (silent reactions, desperate sex, the inebriation in 4.09, the grand-mal seizure in 4.21) and he just nails it. I was ready to dash for some Stesolid during his convulsions! Anybody that has seen one knows what I am talking about.

But the one scene that totally broke me was the one with Sam and Bobby. So underplayed and still so poignant. Both actors excelled in that one. Their fluid acting just underscored the lines spoken perfectly. The subdued voices and Sam's lifting of the barrel to his heart and "then shoot me." I don't bawl often, but damned, I teared up.

I love that Jared, like George, does not rely on the pretty. He looked like cap most of this ep and he twitched, he screamed and he begged, he got stir crazy and enraged. he went through every emotion and not once did they seem out of place. I love Jared for being able to portray Sam so perfectly that we need no crying confessions to understand him. because really, seeing it always works better than hearing it when it comes to acting. No need for the yellow crayon speeches when you've got Jared. Kripke you lucky shit, you so don't deserve him! He actually cries real tears! How do I know? Watch the redness of his eyes, no fake tears can produce that. Watch the tears rolling down his cheeks, again, not doable with long takes and fake tears. One perfect manly tear may be sexy and all that, but Jared's tears are real and make the acting seem easy. I guess that's why he is so underestimated, much like George Eads.

I may not like the anvilly, misogynistic show, but by gosh, I love Jared's acting and I do pray that he gets away from the OTT mess that is SPN right now. Because keeping him in the background is just a crime. But on the other hand, I'm glad he's not let Kripke make his character an OTT abomination like he's managed with other (much easier, more plain) characters. That's all Jared's doing, not the writers', or Kripke's, but the actor behind one of the more fascinating characters on TV right now. I can't wait till Jared gets something better and is allowed to show what he is all about for real. He's paid his dues, really.

*standing ovation*

jared, spn
