I don't understand it....

I'm listening to the radio, about the argument on the Texas school board, about the language of the science textbook standard. And I don't understand something.

The argument is this, "Should we accept books that endorse the leading and most accepted scientific theory about the creation of the world?" or "Should we say that 'this is a theory' and give word to other, less well known theories?" This, is a massive fight, more about book publishing than anything else.

But like the title says, I don't understand it.

I get that Christians don't want it taught that 'the earth formed this way!' when the book they read as truth says it otherwise, I understand that.

I get that most scientists think that if you try to 'teach' by religion then that's returning to the dark ages when it will end up that someone will say 'the church knows best' I get that.

What I don't get...is this, great zeal that both sides fight about this issue with. (maybe it's because I personally, though a christian and a follower of science, don't have any great zeal about it) Most people are like me, and would really like to form an opinion about this but the moment we open our mouth someone shouts "THAT'S WRONG"

I don't understand, and I rant :S

DISCUSS!

evolution, rant, science, creation, war, god, theory, big rant
