This is intresting, I am looking for solutions to my little graphics card problem, today in network class they start talking about PC cards. (laptop expansion cards) So I decide to run a search on them...
They make PC card video cards...essentially LAPTOP video cards, but not the kind I need to run deadspace, they're more for hooking up another monitor. I wondered if there was some kind of adapter for this, someone had to have made one.
I found out about a thing called
Magma. It's essentialy what I'm looking for, a nice solotion if you want your big huge gfx card investment and your laptop investment to have some use together. It even comes with it's own stand and coolant fan, and they are making one that's fully enclosed for industrial type settigns...but here's the thing.
Magma's smallest box (the smallest one! not even full sized!) is about 700 dollars. This is not cost effective for me, who dosn't have a high output card yet...but I'm thinking, if they did it, why can't I? All I need is a PCI to Serial connector, a serial to PC connector (or hell, I've seen USB to serial port connectors) and a PCIe Bus, which I could probably rip out of most modern computers. The problem will be power. Magma's box has it's own power supply, I'm not sure yet how I'll power my own expansion box, or what kind of power it will need.
Anyways I'm just thowing this out there, but it'd be great if I could avoid openning the faimly computer on this! Plus I know it's processor is probably too slow.
