Oddly enough that morning when Naruto opened his eyes, Sasuke's back faced the window pouring in sunlight. It painted his black hair a shade of blue and purple. The darkness was the same hue as the flames of Amateratsu he had often seen Sasuke use during his battles.

One arm supported his head that lifted from the pillow. Both onyx eyes were partly open just staring. A twitch of the right corner of his lips upward resulting in a small smirk.

"Marry me, usuratonkachi," mumbled Sasuke as he lay next to his blonde lover. Sheets pulled up to his waist hid the marvelous marble perfection Naruto had experienced below last night. His backside still ached from their nocturnal Olympics.

"EEEHHHHH?" Naruto called out, blue eyes popping open wide. Bold upright in bed he sat gaping at the raven-haired Uchiha still lying on his side in the bed.

Sighing, Sasuke rolled his dark black eyes. "I always have to repeat things for you, Naruto."

The blonde gripped the edge of the bed covers and twisted them between his hands. Literally, he tried to get a grip on his racing thoughts, pounding heart and dozens of emotions exploding at once. Had he really heard those words pass Sasuke’s lips? Of course, they were two men, but marriages between shinobi of the same sex were not unheard of recently. Still, he could have heard wrong. Weren’t proposals supposed to happen on one knee or in a quiet cozy restaurant?

“You can’t just blurt it out like that, dattebayo!” Naruto stammered, trying to steady his heart pumping dozens of CC’s of blood a minute.

Sighing, Sasuke hauled himself to sit up next to the blond almost tying knots in the bedclothes in front of him. Golden brown skin he wanted to see far more of at that moment was hidden by those offending pieces of cloth. “Naruto, look at me…”

A cool hand settled on the side of Naruto’s cheek, turning his head to face those deep black eyes he could lose himself in. Darker than midnight and now filled with a sincerity and openness Naruto had not seen in years. He swallowed the lump in his throat and found he could not utter the words his lips and tongue tried to form.

“Naruto,” Sasuke repeated. Always that exotic pronunciation of that last syllable tugged at Naruto’s heartstrings, pulling him into a moment that had dragged on during his spinning racing thoughts. Now they stopped abruptly fixating on Sasuke’s face.

“You… you’re proposing to me, Sasuke?” he managed to croak out like the toads he had learned the sage arts from.

Cupping Naruto’s face in both hands the Uchiha rubbed his thumbs over the triple scars festooning either cheek. He bent forwards and kissed him on the nose before he pulled one hand away and touched his finger to the Uzumaki's forehead. “Yes. I am proposing. As an Uchiha normally does. Right to the point.”

“Me… marry you? As in till death do us part and all that dattebayo?” Naruto repeated. His heart started and stopped at the word ‘propose’.

“You’re supposed to say that at that ceremony, not now. But you’ve already proved you wanted to be with me even when I didn’t realize it, dobe,” mumbled Sasuke.

The blonde managed a goofy smile and then bent forward to kiss his dark haired lover. “I guess that’s one heck of a birthday present you’re getting yourself today?”

“That was not the first thing in my mind,” Sasuke admitted, frowning at the sudden change of subject shattering his moment. Trust Naruto to pull in a non-sequeter and ruin the seriousness of his mood. If it wasn’t the blonde that did such a thing, the jingling preceding the shift of a small weight on the bed would have.

“Brrrrt…” Itachi chirruped, rubbing his cheek against the Uchiha's bare back.

“What, I have to ask your permission to say yes?” Naruto asked as he glared at the cat. Itachi then looked up at him with a slow blink before he rubbed his cheek against Naruto’s side as well. Though he still felt tingles of disbelief up and down his bare skin, the Uzumaki felt as if he were floating.

“So is it yes or no?” Sasuke asked quietly.

The Uzumaki smiled softly and thought for a moment. He then nodded, feeling words again deserting him.
