Yeah. Back when we lived in our villages, we only had a need for a single name. Once we started living in the city, though, we were given last names, depending on what the name of our village was.

I don't know why, though. It was Rossiu's idea.

[She sounds amused.] That's actually not all that uncommon as a starting point for last names. Villages and professions, that sort of thing.

So where does "Faye-Ling" come from?

It was just a common name in the province my family came from. Something of a device to keep track of who came from what area -- rather similar to being named for a village, honestly.
